    Question for DirectTV/DISH Network users

I currently use Time Warner for cable and internet but have been seriously thinking of going to satellite after several customer service issues and rate hikes

If I go with satellite I would no longer be able to have cable internet correct? How do satellite folks get their internet?

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know how they do it where you guys are, but we have Dish Network and Charter Cable internet (no cable tv now, used to have expanded basic and dish). The two services have nothing to do with each other here.

back when i had E*, they advertised using the satellite for internet service. There only issue is that they have very slow upload speeds. Most people just get DSL and be done with it. You can keep your cable internet if you want but they charge you a penalty for not using them for TV also.

We used to have Adelphia for cable internet and television, but we switched to DirecTV and just kept the cabel internet. You don't HAVE to use one provider for both. Personally, I'll never go to DSL again.

I dont know exactly where in L.A. you are, but in the valley here I have verizon, they merged with DirecTV. If you have verizon as your provider (phone) go with DirecTV, they have a combo package.

DirecTV / Verizon / DSL all in one, and they will upgrade your speed for free.

I have DirecTV and Charter internet cable. You can have different providers for whatever you want.

If you want to have cable internet & satelite on the same line, you just need to let them know and they can adjust it so you shouldn't have any problems.

I have Charter for my cable provider here in WI. It is possible to have cable internet without having cable TV? if you don't mind me asking, how much for just the internet cable?

For those of you that do have Direct TV, are you happy with it. How are the HD channels if you have that package. I've been going back forth over the last year about making a switch. The problem for me is that in my area, Direct TV doesn't offer my local channels in HD.

DirecTV has a reputation for having the worst quality HD channels of the TV providers.

Yes, I don't have cable TV at all, and I pay $50/month for 3mb service.

Had DirectTV in high def from 2002 to 2005 and didn't notice any difference from CoxCable's HD picture. I didn't get DirectTV locals in HD so I'm comparing ESPN, HBO, SHOWTIME, etc., etc. Keep in mind by TV is 4 years old, with no HDMI inputs.

My locals in HD on DirecTV look pretty good, but ESPN and the others look blocky. I think they compress their HD signals too much. Hopefully this will change with their new satellites they are launching.
