    HDTV Problem

I know there is a thread for HDTV discussion but wasn't sure if it was for specific problems like the one I'm having, I browsed through a bit and most of it seems to be about buying them, so if this did belong in there sorry.

On to my problem though, yesterday I noticed a blue discoloration on my 50" Sony HDTV, its at the center bottom part of the screen, yesterday I first noticed it while watching Prison Break, it started out about 6 inches wide and around an inch tall, as more time goes now its getting progressively bigger, now its close to 12 inches wide and 6 inches tall at its highest point, its not level its like a hill, starts out short on each side and inclines then has a peak in the middle basically.

My TV is under warranty with Best Buy but I called them and they can't send anyone out to look at it until Monday, and if its something small they'll fix it here, if its something big they'll have to send it off (day before MLB 2k7 ).

So I'm curious if anyone here has (or knows of anyone who has) had a problem like this, and if so was it a big deal or did it turn out to just be something small that could even be fixed on my own. I still plan to have them come here on Monday but I'm really anxious to know if I'll be without the beauty of HDTV for a stretch of time as its being repaired or not.

    Re: HDTV Problem

I will try to help because I fix tvs for a company in Ny. I would have to know if the tv is lcd or rear projection? If lcd , sony has had problems with the 'a 'board which has been remanufactured and replaced in many sets.If its rear projection sounds like some kind of convergence distortion. If you give me a model number I will look it up for you.Last but not least is the distortion only when you play video games or dvds? Does this happen when you watch regular cable hooked to the rf input? Most likely the tech wont have the part and pull your tv, sorry for the bad news.

Its an LCD rear projection, model # KF-50WE610, says it was manufactured in June 2004.

The distortion is showin up on everything, if I'm playin my 360, watchin live TV, somethin I recorded with tivo, or a DVD.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KF50WE610.../dp/B0000E3DQE link to the tv I found from google incase you'd need anything else about it, might be in there if not ask and I can find out.

Ok lcd rear projection is a different story. I would change the lite engine which is the whole optics assembly. There is what they call aging switches 1-4 inside to compensate for bad picture. They way you tell it though its too far out.I would say lite engine and its good you are under warranty these babys go for 1000 to 1500. If tech determines this is the case he will most likely take the set.The whole set needs to come apart including the back ,front and you need to drop the wiring.Tell tech that you would like a new part because they are rebuilting these for about 500 but they are not as reliable.Hope I helped.

Definitely helped, thanks for taking the time to give me the info for this stuff and I'll be sure to tell the tech I want a new part instead of a less reliable newer version.
