    A world without America...

Well first things first I think without America then we'd see less freedom or at least not the same kind of freedom that we think of. We'd definitely be living under a parliamentary system with Royal leadership that could descend into someone taking power by force (hence tyranny)

At least from my point of view as a Canadian, Canada would be a bigger player in the world. I'd say most of North America would be British owned. However, having said that we'd be pretty much reigned in as the Brits don't have the American uprising which lead to Canada getting independence pretty quickly.

Finally, most of the "what ifs" in that TV spot wouldn't happen simply because of the Butterfly Effect. Without an America who's to say there'd be a WW II? or even a WW I for that matter.

When it's a nation based on immigrants, then they would, most likely, discover what they did where they or their ancestors were from. You can even say that a 'true american' does not exist.

Nukes, slavery, exploitation of the entire Latin America... that's also part of the American legacy.

The world is great because EVERYONE has contributed to it. I'd also argue that Rome, Greece, Carthage, The ancient chinese, Spain, Portugal, Germany, England have been greater to the overall world than 'America'
        You forgot Africa.

Freedom? I HATE when people associate freedom and America. Before I say anything, I wanna say this: I live in Canada, but the USA would be the nation I'd want to live in. Why? Canada is great but something about America (except for its politics, which upset me). I visit America yearly and most of my family lives there.

Now, let's just analyze something here. In Latin America, the Spanish were bad but they exploited minerals and the people--the US did that and then the environment very extensively, and set up monopolies that crumbled the economy in favour of capitalism--for AMERICA. Thats why Chavex and Castro are so respected, they've gone against Capitalism.

As someone mentioned, Africa as well. The Old World did that also but not even close to the extensiveness.

Ya, the nuke was invented by a German being PAID by the US--he has American Citizenship.

And as for freedom--it doesnt exist. No where does freedom exist in the world today, not the US, not anywhere.

The US has done great things for the world, but they've done bad things too but Americans don't like to talk about it. Why not tho, EVERYONE makes mistakes

Im not making this a political thread, but while i love Americans themselves (have never had a problem with any), the bad rep America gets comes from its politics and capitalism, and it doesnt seem like Americans understand that. Gas goes up, theres an excuse that its running out, and people buy it. DO NOT listen to a govt, PLEASE--do RESEARCH.

As for a monarchy vs democratic govt.

Kings got whatever they want. Women, money, properties, etc. They retained theire power--but whats so bad about that? Usually, bad kinds got killed. The people knew how to handle them.

Now, let's look at presidents. Bush, Putin, any in Brazil and Italy, Hitler (different word, chancellor, same powers)... what do you notice? Its MUCH worse. People think that because he was elected, they should back him up, while they didnt do that with kings--open your eyes people.

And the BILLIONS, yes, BILLIONS spent on Presidential races--that costs AMERICANS money, and not the well-off either. With a monarch, people would save soooo much money it's not funny.

Long live America? Definately. BUT, let's try understanding that for all the good done by America, theres been just as much bad--we're all HUMAN, lets remember that.

We don't have freedom in this world? Seriously, I'm usually an even keel guy, but if you told me that in person I would break your jaw.

Also, if anyone remembers the United States was far from the first nation to use slavery. Slavery has been since the beginning of time practically. Hell, Africans were selling other Africans to the United States.

They were "selling" prisoners or war which was was supported by the european nations wanting to rape Africa of its people and natural resources and it didn't even happen all that often. I still don't get why people always want to use that example as some way to justify slavery or whatever reason they use it. But you're right, slavery isn't something new but America had one of the worst forms of slavery.

                    Re: A World Without America

This was a Monty Python sketch, right? I kept waiting for the disclaimer that this was a comedy sketch from the BBC.

Otherwise, this is just partisan bullsh*t, like anything else concerning politics.

I love how the video all but claims the U.S. won World War II. News flash: The British and Soviets sacrificed a HELL of a lot more than the U.S. to win the war. The Soviets lost WAY more men than the U.S., and both of those nations' major cities were reduced to rubble.

Other than Pearl Harbor, a few shells lobbed at Oregon and a fierce battle for some of the western-most Aleutian Islands, American soil was untouched during WW II.

This is just horsesh*t propaganda. I thought politics was banned at OS?

                    Take care,
