I'm surprised Napolean McCallum didn't make the list. I still remember watching Nitro and seeing that happen to Sid. That was probably the worst one I've seen. You just see his leg dangling in his boot.

If I told you I had a j to sell you, would that be something you would be interested in?

Where is that Raider who got tackled and bent it weird (Macallum)?

The McCallum injury was the worst I've seen live, including the Ray injury. Given that the McCallum injury happened on MNF, it's kind of our generation's Theisman injury. Everyone remembers watching it.

Agreed, I will never forget seeing that one.

I remember seeing the Ventura one sliding into home, my God, I winced for weeks.

An honorable mention should be Tony Saunders when he pitched for the Devil Rays. He was just throwing a pitch, and his arm completely turned to rubber.

                    It was pretty nasty looking.

There's a few in soccer that are worse than Theismann's. McCallum's injury was the one that got me because like everyone else said, it was kinda their first that they saw on tv.

The one that trumps them all is the goalie getting sliced. I don't care if you didn't see it or not, just seeing the blood gush out like it's water out of a faucet is nightmarish. I'm still holding my neck.

Ah and don't forget Jason Kendall running for 1st base in '99. I'm sorry, but that was pretty damn bad. It's not everyday you see someone's bone sticking out.

The fact that Clint Malarchuk isnt 1st is ridiculous
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I agree. The guy's throat got slashed. That's worse than ANYTHING else on that list.

The notable incident occurred during a game on March 22, 1989 between the visiting St. Louis Blues and Malarchuk's Buffalo Sabres. Steve Tuttle of the Blues and Uwe Krupp of the Sabres collided at the mouth of the goal, and Tuttle's skate caught Malarchuk on the neck, slicing open his external carotid artery. With pools of blood collecting on the ice, Malarchuk somehow left the ice under his own power with the assistance of his team's trainer, Jim Pizzutelli. Many spectators were physically sickened by the sight with seven fainting and two suffering heart attacks while two teammates vomited on the ice [1] [2]. Local television cameras covering the game instantly cut away from the sight of Malarchuk.
Malarchuk, meanwhile, had only two thoughts: He was going to die, and he had to do it the right way. "All I wanted to do was get off the ice," says Malarchuk, now the goaltenders coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets. "My mother was watching the game on TV, and I didn't want her to see me die."
What saved Malarchuk's life—more accurately, who—was Jim Pizzutelli, the team's trainer and a former Army medic who served in Vietnam. He reached into Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the bleeding, not letting go until doctors arrived to begin suturing the wound. Still, Malarchuk came within minutes of becoming only the second on-ice fatality in NHL history.
Amazingly, he returned to practice 4 days later.
                              Wow.
