    Re: Sports worst inuries

Yep. I remember the Malarchuk injury back then. I remembered it differently than what I saw on that Youtube clip.

I thought it was a clean breakaway with no other players in the offensive end when puckhandler was pulled down causing the collision. The clip that I remember I saw almost 20 years ago stayed up close and focused on the bleeding and didn't shift away as shown in the Youtube clip. They then showed the trainer helping him off the ice - the fact that he could walk on his own was even more shocking than the actual injury.

Anyhow, I think the Shaun Livingston injury was pretty bad to watch. It's hard to imagine how landing funny can cause that kind of damage - probably because his knees were predisposed to this type of injury.

Dave Dravecky had an arm injury similar to Saunders after he made a comeback from cancer. Unfortunately, Dravecky lost his arm.

I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this or not but McCallum almost died from that injury that night. I guess his artery got nicked and he came pretty close to taking a dirt nap.

That Alabama WR snapping his leg is HORRID!!

McCallum's was the worst I've seen. The fact it was a Raider probably skews my opinion on it though.

Well the McCallum one was probably the worst if not one of the worst, but two that stick out in my mind are Jason Kendall destroying his ankle by stepping on 1B funny, and Geoff Jenkins' ankle being stuck w/ his foot at a 90 degree angle inward.

Speak of the devil, the Geoff Jenkins & Jason Kendall injuries are in this video (GRAPHIC...as expected)

EDIT#2 - I watched pretty much all the videos and got a little queezy, but no big deal. I'm watching this video of the crash and events after that killed F1 driver Ayrton Senna in 1994 and its just making me sad. The safety crew didn't really know what to do because I think they all had a feeling the worst had happened and none of them approached the car right away

That's one of the reasons I can't watch these clips anymore. I've become quite sensitive to these injuries since then. I used to be able to take it, but not now.

Here's a youtube vid with some of the worst soccer injuries. It has funny stuff on it, too...as well as other things...but the injuries are UGLY.

I don't watch them either. If someone breaks their leg or tears up their knee, I'll take the commentator's word for it, no need to show me 5 different slow motion angles.

                    Re: Sports worst inuries

One of the worst things I've ever seen was an injury during a kickboxing match...I think it's actually mentioned in one of the blog comments.

It was on You Gotta See This which used to come on FSN all the time...one of the fighters goes to throw a kick which lands on his opponents shin but all pretty much breaks his leg in two on impact. The worst part is that he falls down ONTO the broken leg and then down to the mat.

                    Oh...My...God.

It was absolutely sickening, it still makes me cringe to think about it now. I'll never watch that video again, ugh.

Oh wow, I think I remember that one! Do you know the fighters involved?

EDIT: Found it. I won't post it here but if anyone wants to see it, just go to YouTube and search "kickboxing break"

That boot just slipped around to the side. They know how to fake this stuff. No way this really happened. They probably pretended to help him to the back, and as soon as he got through the curtain, he probably just walked off.

That's what a guy said about the Sid Vicious video...haha geez

I was at that game and sitting down the 1st base line, but about 20 rows up. The worst part was how loud the pop was and how loud Kendall was screaming on the ground.

I didn't see the Theisman one live, and since I'm not one to look at replays of those kinds of things, I've never seen it. So although I'm in the Theisman generation, the McCallum one is the worse I've seen live as well.

It kind of ironic that before that game a bunch of us were watching a Steven Segal movie where he's breaking arms, legs, and necks and we were laughing it up, but once we saw the real thing happen in the game we all winced and groaned audibly.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
