Or so says this op-ed piece. They contend that HIV has nothing to do with AIDS, and that it's more of a chemically and behaviorally induced epidemic. Please, don't post until you actually watch this. It is 2 hours, so sit back, relax, and open your minds.

Complete and utter BS. Crap like this causes people to go off their meds, resulting in the worsening of their disease and their death.

My wife works at our area Health Department. She is the one who gets to tell people when they have tested positive for HIV and what their next steps should be. She also coordinates the programs that help the afflicted receive government aid to pay for their meds. She has diagnosed people with HIV, watched the virus progress in the patients to full blown AIDS, and then watched as the people have wasted away until they ultimately die from the disease.

Until these people go through that type of experience, I don't want to hear another thing from any of them.

Looking through some of the writings on Duesbergs' website,I see that his major contention is that AIDS is not contagious and is in fact acquired through the use of recreational drugs.
This is absurd to the point of criminality.
Don't anyone else waste their time with this stuff,seriously.

Thank you for your opinion. But please, watch the program before posting. I'm not trying to say you're wrong and this program is right, but I would like to have an open dialogue on the issues brought about on the video.

You mention the AIDS drugs... a part of this op-ed piece talks about AIDS drugs. You mention your wife and the process she goes through on a daily basis. This op-ed piece will argue that your wife's patients might have AIDS, and no one doubts that AIDS is a horrible disease, but HIV is not the cause of it. Drugs do nothing in treating AIDS because these drugs target HIV function and activity. But if HIV has nothing to do with AIDS, what will these drugs do? And in a final bit of contradiction, this op-ed piece will say these drugs do MUCH more HARM to the patients than help.

No, that's not his point. His point is that the use of recreational drugs (and thus the drugs themselves) inhibit the immune system, thus the user is susceptible to more opportunistic infections. The drugs themselves are NOT the cause of AIDS.

I'm 55 minutes in and the arguments are very convincing IMO. I've always said there's alot of money in HIV/AIDS research not so much in a cure. And look at Magic, he was diagnosed as HIV positive almost 20 years ago, he's healthier than me.

My wife also works in a Hospital and sees people daily who've never used a drug in their lives...yet have HIV.

My friends Aunty has had HIV for 17 years. Like Magic, she is okay today. Guess what though? She got it through a blood transfusion from a major hospital. EVERY other person in her "batch" is dead. (19 other people). Some people respond to the medicines, some don't. Magic was lucky to be able to afford the very best.

Side note : medicines now are also a lot better than even 10 years ago for HIV.

Not only that, there has been a good dozen or more vaccines developed. Actually I think there are 20 + types of medicines.

Blood transfusions are another way to contract AIDS, and the op-ed piece won't deny that. Recreational drug use is NOT the only way to contract AIDS. The op-ed piece will also talk about hemophiliacs (often getting foreign blood sources) that never use drugs are also at a higher risk group. Male homosexuals that are also drug users are at a higher risk, but male homosexuals that don't use drugs are not at a high risk group.

As for Magic, he was able to afford the very best. That's not true. People with insurance on a much smaller salary can also "afford" the same medicine. AZT, protease inhibitors, HAART's, regardless of who buys it should work in one individual to the next. And I also agree that medicines that attack HIV are much better now than 10 years ago, yet as the op-ed piece will argue, it's great at getting at HIV, but will do nothing for AIDS.

Now, I'm hoping that every response after this one will be made AFTER watching the program. Otherwise, please don't respond. I asked for one simple request in regards to posting in this thread, and only one person has followed that request. I understand that we are all made to believe that HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, and I believe it too. I STILL do after watching it. But there are some very serious questions that this piece raises. SO PLEASE WATCH IT BEFORE POSTING.

This is a message board about sports gaming and sports, not many people are looking to conduct a serious debate about HIV/Aids when they pop over here.
