    El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead

Did anybody pick this up today? I know it leaked a month or so ago, but I was still stoked to get the CD today.

I downloaded it, and I can't fathom why on earth you have been making such a big deal about it for the longest time. Usually I enjoy the music you suggest, if I haven't heard such artists before...

this album... AWFUL! I'm going to put my review of it in the 'fans of underground rap' thread... it got an F.

The beats were pretty bad, and I can't stand his style and melody etc... its just all so odd to listen to.

I guess different strokes for different folks since I love the album's production and the melodies throughout.

yeah... it's not a knock on you or anything

I tried just for the sake to listen again... maybe it was one of those "Grow on Me" albums like the HOJ mixtape...

but nahhh... I think I'll delete it.

Yeah I didn't like it either. The beats really weren't that great and he just seems to be weird just to be weird.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

El-P is a really interesting artist, but his music is incredibly dense, and it can be tough to get into.

I love a lot of his work though. "Eight Steps to Perfection" is probably one of my top-5 rap tracks ever.

Exactly. There's a ton of stuff happening in his production, that at first it all sounds clustered, but the more you listen, the more things start to poke their way out into focus. I think everything he has done on this album is like that. Its clustered, rushed, and has a paranoid vibe coming from it and thats what I love about it.

I can't get into his rapping style at all, it just doesn't work for me. That and the songs on the album aren't terriblely memorable to me. But the album is getting great reviews from what I've seen, so it seems like I am missing something, oh well.
