I just started watching these on BD tonight. Absolutely amazing stuff. How they got some of this footage, I'll never know. The video quality is outstanding and the production is consistently engaging. Highly recommended to anyone who has even a remote appreciation for nature.

Anybody picking the series up on dvd? Retail is $80.00, I'm really tempted to buy it off Amazon with free shipping for $54.00. I kind of like the BBC guy more than Weaver on the narration.

Also, the dvd has like 90 minutes of footage not shown on the Discovery Channel, as well as 110 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage (not available for the HD or Blu Ray editions).

I did. I caught an episode of the series on PBS about 2 weeks ago and I prefer David Attenborough's narration. I think he does a better job and it just goes together better than Sigourney Weaver.

There is also a series called Blue Planet which looks cool as well.

I started watching this, it's wonderful!

My daughter loves stuff like this .

Wait, I see this said Discovery Channel. I could of swore I was watching this on Animal Planet last night? Think they might of showed it on there as well?

Hey Dookie, not sure how old your daughter is, but I would be weary of the "Freshwater" show. It's easily the most graphic (giant salamander fish, piranha, and river crocs).

As to your second question, it's only on the Discovery Channel, as they got the rights to the original BBC documentary...they then re-edited the dialogue with Sigourney Weaver as opposed to Richard Attenborough.

It's now available on DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-ray! Well worth it in high definition!

Actually Dookie and Johnny, its on Animal Planet now. Discovery Channel owns the Animal Planet show, so instead of running re-runs on discovery, they can do it on Animal Planet without taking too much time away from the more popular shows. I also think that they included some new video on the Animal Planet version. I was watching yesterday, and it seemed as if they showed something I've never seen before.

Also, you guys missed out on this last month, but Amazon had a great deal on Planet Earth. For the entire set, you could have purchased it for $40.00. Yup, 50% off! If I see any other sales on it, I'll post it on this site.

Ah so...guess I need to keep up on my corporate mergers and splits.

Still, HD is the only way to go for this fine documentary, so Discovery HD or next gen DVD it is!

Although the Costco website lists it for $69, I picked up the HD version in the warehouse for $65.99 the other day (the BBC version and not the Sigourney Weaver one).

A sequel of sorts, Discovery is running a marathon of "Nature's Most Amazing Events". It's a 6 parter and tonight they are airing "Grizzly Wilderness" and "Arctic Summer". Like Planet Earth, it looks great.
