Spiderman skeets all over Superman and Batman in popularity. Hell, in today's land, X-Men is more popular than Superman and Batman.
Spiderman: 403 mil
Spiderman 2: 373 mil
X3: 234 mil
X2: 214 mil
Batman Begins: 205 mil
Superman Returns: 200 mil
Superman is in the past. Nowadays, us kids don't care about an invincible person. Ghostrider 2 will probably surpass Superman Returns 2.Comment

Go to the bookstore, Barnes and Nobles and get the Marvel encyclopedia and the DC encyclopedia. There are WAY more DC characters than there are Marvel characters. The books are about 40-50 dollars, but well worth it in my opinion. What world do you live in?Comment

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
Heck those two superheros basically kept DC afloat for a few years there. Batman has the mythos of a greek tragedy in many ways. That character has been to hell and back yet he hasn't gone off the deep end like a regular person would. He still has his principles when fighting crime and he does it not only to keep Gotham safe but also to avenge the type of evil that killed his parents. Batman is the RICHEST character in comics in terms of exploring his character and coming up with great stories. You can't say that for Spider-man. Batman has to fight crime to keep his sanity somewhat intact. Spider-Man fights crime because that's what his notion of superherodom is.
I disagree with your assessment of Spider-man. He fights because he feels he should, but also because of a deep guilt over the death of his Uncle Ben whom he could have saved but chose not to. I'd call that a tragedy in many ways as well. Spider-man also has a more interesting identity, Peter Parker, because of his age and income brackett. There are a lot more interesting things a writer can do with Peter Parker than they could for Bruce Wayne. For as great as Batman is, his alter-ego is vanilla, boring, and hard to relate to.
They're both great characters, for some of the same reasons and different reasons as well. Probably the two most well-developed comic book characters in the industry.
And I agree with the people who said that the Spider-man movies elevated him into the Batman/Superman stratusphere. Before the movies, my dad (my mom might be different since she spent a lot of time buying me Spider-man stuff as a kid) couldn't have told you anything about Spider-man but he could Batman and Superman. And now he certainly can. I think that is probably true of a lot of middle-aged Americans.Comment

Come on now! Wayne is a billionaire. More interesting with Parker then Wayne wow! Also, come on Batman witness his parents die at a young age. I don't think much harder then that. Granted Spiddy could have saved his, but still. I will say one thing Spiddy is a great character just like Batman is. It is funny how this turn into how is the best. lol No doubt I help stir this into that. But still I think Superman is the most popular.
Oh OK I got you, see for me it is different I relate better with Wayne then I do with Parker, but that is because I am Billionaire.Comment

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
I think the marketing behind Spiderman is a much larger scale than Batman Begins was. If I remember correctly when BB came out, I think it was more of a word of mouth type thing, rather than a mass-marketing success. If Nolan & co. show up at Comic Con this year, that will definitely help the hype.
TDK is just finishing pre-production and will start principle photography shortly. Can't wait for the teaser at the end of the summer!!!Comment

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
I just told people it was Patrick Bateman and they automatically knew who it was. It will be interesting to see how they handle the marketing ofthe Joker. I hope they treat him the same Raimi is doing Venom and just give us small shots rather than fully revealing him before the movie.
