Craigslist Gone Wrong

What started off as a prank-post on the popular classified ad site, Craigslist, has turned into a nightmare for one Tacoma WA woman. The ad stated that folks could come "help themselves" to whatever they wanted from the home - the problem? It was posted by someone else looking to be funny. Unfortunately, folks took it seriously and snagged everything but the kitchen sink. KomoTV out of Seattle has the story:

The ad on Craigslist invited people to help themselves to anything at a woman's house in Tacoma. But the woman who owns the house wasn't the one who posted the ad.

Now she's trying to recover thousands of dollars that she lost.

Someone clearly thought the prank would be funny, but Laurie Raye says she hasn't stopped crying since she showed up to her mother's ransacked and emptied house.

The ad placed on the popular web site invited people to take "items outside this home and in the garage on the 1200 block of East 64th Street," saying that it was all was free for the taking.

That blows alot. I hope there's someway they could find out who posted the ad but I doubt it.

On a side note, has anyone actually found a job using this site? I'm trying but I can't tell if any of these jobs are actually real jobs, or just stupid little scams.

Ah, you know people. They think they can leave their doors unlocked because it's a safe world.

I'm not putting blame on the woman. I definitely feel terrible for her. But, there's a lesson to be learned here.

I'm not putting blame on the woman. I definitely feel terrible for her. But, there's a lesson to be learned here.

What would that be?...build a moat?
I doubt her doors were wide open.
C'mon....even double locked doors are simple to get into. In the F.D. we just "a$$ in" the front doors of private dwellings. Once that was done...it was easy pickin's for the rest of the vultures.
That woman has NO lesson to be learned.

YP...do you really think that YOUR house is that secure? I could probably easily get into your home and pick your house clean of the good stuff before your next door neighbors dog barks.

That's crazy something like that can happen. I hope they find out who made the post and hold them responsible for paying for replacing everything. There has to be a cyberspace "paper trail" to track down the author of the craiglist posting...

I don't live in a house, so I really don't know. I'll answer that question a couple of years from now when I know.

Uh, assuming the door was wide open, I guess it would be to lock your doors.

Good Lord what a mess I've had nothing but success on selling on Craig's list as opposed to EBAY. In the last month, I've sold two monitors, an XBOX, games, an old AC unit, keyboards, and an old computer.

The story didn't mention that she had just evicted the person who was renting the house but hadn't changed the locks or locked the doors.
