YIKES! If those guys are the standard......

My main gripe with Cowherd is that he does 1 hour of radio in 3 hours. Just listen closely next time and watch not only how many times he says the same thing right after he's said it, but then his repetition of this into hours 2 and 3. BTW, Spanning the Globe is good because others are doing most of the talking. Original talking.

        Cowherd is an absolute hack

he really doesnt know jack about sports. i have no idea how he has a national syndicated sports radio show. Maybe it's the "Howard Stern" factor that ESPN wants to fill

Exactly... The only part of his show worth anything is the Spanning the Globe bit. If you tune in to the last hour of his show, you're not missing anything. He just repeats whatever he was on in the opening monologue. Basically his schtick is to piss off a large section of fans and get them to call in, like Yankee fans, Cowboy fans, etc. It's so transparent, I laugh when people actually get upset enough to call in/send e-mail to his show. They don't realize he takes all that stuff to the suits at ESPN and it shows how many people pay attention to him.

The best part of ESPN's radio programming is the Game Night crew, and the weekend staff. Mike and Mike, Dan Patrick, Cowherd, they all blow.

I actually like Mike and Mike pretty good, but there are just too many commercials. The Game Night Crew is by far the best thing ESPN has.

I like the gamenight crew. I think colin is funny sometimes. As I think Mike and Mike are funny too. I don't always agree with what they says but there isn't anybody who I do agree with all the time.

Uh, uh, uh.....you didn't say that correctly. It's "Yankee-FAN" or "Cowboy-FAN" or "Raider-FAN"! Everyone needs to face it....when Kornheiser and Co. went off of ESPN radio, it all went downhill. And we all now realize what made Dan Patrick's show good: Rob Dibble.

Mike & Mike are sounding like an old married couple. I think Golic would be a good color commentator during NFL games. Greenberg is just metrosexually obnoxious!

As long as you're entertained, that's all that matters because you're never going to agree with everyone.

I love listening to Glenn Beck, but I never agree with everything he says (although for the most part I do)

Which is particularly confusing when he's discussing the Kentucky Derby.

As for the Cow, I can take him or leave him. He is very much a bandwagon jumper though. He has no problem licking Pete Carroll's nuts or Charlie Weis' fat rolls all of the time. I remember a half hour long rant about how the players at USC and Notre Dame were just better human beings than every other school. That being said, I am sure he was all over FSU and Nebraska's jock when they were the CFB powers, although now he trashes FSU any chance he gets.

As for the website incident, that was pretty stupid. Basic common sense would dictate that there could be legal ramifications for the way he did that. Now if he just mentioned the site in passing, or was doing it to promote the site, that would be one thing, but saying he could shut it down (crash it) definitely crosses a line. I am actually surprised his producer (censor) didn't go to commercial before he got the site's name out.

An ombudsman does not have any authority to hire/fire people or anything like that. They just report to the people who make those decisions and act as an independent consultant, designed to represent what the public thinks, sees, and wants.
I believe the ombudsman does not represent the people. The people, or audience in most cases, represent one of the stakeholders for an organization's operations. Because of this, the people are one party whose voices are listened to, only because it is in the organizations best interest to do so. This list of stakeholders also includes the employees of the organization, and the ownership/management of the organization. The purpose of the ombudsman is to settle disputes between any of these parties, and act as impartial and independent.

As it relates to ESPN, their ombudsman position merely seem to be a figurehead aiming to lend some form of credibility to their largely chaotic melange of media outlets. I have never heard of the ESPN ombudsman driving action against any company employees.

As for Cowherd, well, his job is to be a smarmy, pompous ***, and he does quite a good job at that.

Nah, it's the whole "shock jock" mentality of radio. You see where that got Imus.

Most of the successful radio personalities are the ones that try to shock people or piss them off, just to get a reaction. It works for some strange reason, until they go too far or take it over the top. I didn't mind Cowherd too much until he tried to trash Kirby Puckett the day after he died. Everyone knew that Kirby had his issues, but to make it a point to bring those up in an effort to discredit him when the man's body isn't even cold yet was in poor, poor taste, IMO. He also got into trouble for some statements he made after Eddie Guerrero died, IIRC.

Oh I know, I just find it very funny when these shock jocks take it a step too far and have to eat crow for a bit but even then i'm sure they're secretly happy to get their name out even if it's bad publicity.

I hate Cowherd's show. He just spews stuff that makes no sense at all. I remember a couple months back he thought that Canseco should be in the Hall of Fame, since he was honest and wrote his book about steroids. He thinks he belongs because he became famous for that and if you're famous you belong in the Hall Of Fame.
