If that interests you I suggest that you rent (if you can find it) the made for TV movie that shortly came out after the murders. Powers Boothe played Jim Jones in what was probably the best TV movie I've ever seen. The performance by Boothe was bone chilling and forget the Emmy, it was Oscar worthy, he was that good.

I heard the same thing about the movie. I honestly didn't know about Jim Jones until a few years ago. I was at work and I overheard one of my co-workers mentioning something about the "Jim Jones and the Kool Aid Kids". Personally at first thought they were talking about an old Saturday morning cartoon I may have missed out on, but the more they talked about the subject I had to ask him. He seemed surprised that I didn't here about "Jim Jones and The Kool Aid Kids." After he explained to me, in great detail about it I had to hurry home and Google it. I was literally shocked at what I read and HAD to ask anyone older than me about what they remembered.I had a cousin that told me about the Boothe movie and said it was VERY Scary and realistic.

A couple months ago the History Channel had a pretty good program on Jim Jones. It had commentary from the few people that actually survived everything that went on down there.

It depresses me that the biggest thing Guyana is known for outside of the west indies/carribean is Jim Jones and his cult. A while back Jones' son was on Canadian TV doing an interview about his experiences and how it was like with his father. Jim Jones was truly a disturbed man who used his charisma to ruin so many lives.

At least his son has a relatively normal life now in his 40s.

I seen that program. He's son seems like a decent guy, but that one person who left without he's young son did not. I mean how can you even consider leaving a place like that without taking your kid.

The PBS special did the same thing. Very depressing hearing about how they held their wives, children, mothers etc in their arms as they died.

Yeah I remember hearing about it. I was in San Diego at the time of Heaven Gates group off themselves. Just sad what people can be led to do.
