    Drive: Episode discussion thread

Drive is the new TV series which airs April 15th on FOX. The series is created by Tim Minear (Angel, Firefly, Wonderfalls) and Ben Queen (Century City), and producer credits additionally include Greg Yaitanes (director: Lost, Alias, House). It stars a large ensemble cast, including Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity), Emma Stone (Malcolm in the Middle, Medium), Melanie Lynskey (Flags of our Fathers) and Kevin Alejandro (Sleeper Cell). It charts a mysterious cross country road race, in a fast paced, high action television series which looks and feels like nothing you've ever seen before. Who is running in the race, what are they hiding, why do they need to win, where does the race originate from -- and what lies at the finish line?
The trailer can be viewed on YouTube.

The series kicks off tonight (Sunday, April 15) at 8:00 PM ET on FOX and will be a two hour première episode. It's my understanding that the show's regular time slot will be Mondays at 8:00 PM ET thereafter.

I love racing, cars, and speed, and thus this show is appealing to me for that reason alone. The cross country race aspect reminds me of the Gumball races, or even the movie Speed Zone. I am not a sitcom watcher, and when I do pick one to watch, it usually is a disaster (SMITH, for example), but I am excited about Drive regardless.

I feel the same way, if this is going to be on Sunday nights, there is just way too much more on too watch than this.

Hopefully they show the premiere again as I want to see the show, but there is just way too much on tonight to even catch this show.

Doesn't look that good to me.

            I miss Prison Break.

It wouldn't surprise me if it sucks and/or gets cancelled. However, every once in a blue moon a show comes along that grabs my interest and I give it a shot. Drive is one of those shows, and for that reason alone, I am optomistic.

As for being on Sundays... it's not. The season première is tonight, but it will be aired on Mondays at 8:00 thereafter.

We'll see how it goes. If it does get cancelled, it would be fitting, as that is the type of show I'm generally drawn to.

Does anyone know if they will re-air the premiere this week?

Yeah this is weird for me, I was chosen to see the pilot, I liked it, but they changed the main actor and some other people. Now I feel like my review back to them meant nothing. Because every body that I told them I liked are gone! lol It was funny the video tape they sent erased as it played. I felt like I was in mission impossible. lol

I thought the pilot was great and so did my wife.

Yea, that was fantastic! Easily one of the better initial episodes I've seen. I really like the characters and the fact that the cast is balanced and not focused on one protagonist, even though a case could be made for the guy that is after is wife.

I was also pleased to see the show did not get excessively emotional or dramatic. It feels real and I felt the means by which characters were introduced into the race was generally logical. I had some doubt in regards to the woman who is apparently fleeing from her husband, as her child seemed safe, but I gather she is fleeing her husband, and the teaser of tomorrow's episode seems to indicate that her child will become involved shortly; which would make her interest in the race more meaningful.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the first episode. It seems the show's future is open enough that it has staying power if it is received well from the viewing audience, and ideally the creators are able to maintain the level of quality they've established in the pilot episode. Having a new episode already tomorrow night is also a good decision IMO, and I'm sure many of those that tuned into tonight will be back tomorrow. It will both introduce the new timeslot and also help build momentum leading into next week's show.

Not bad. I think I'll stick with it for a while. Also makes me really want to watch Firefly again.

Wow they have a whole new cast. I guess my opinion meant nothing to the big shots at Fox! lol That is the last time I am going to watch a pilot for them! lol
