Fantastic film, I loved it. Better than Shaun of the Dead

I saw it again this past Thursday night. I still think its a brilliant movie; definitely the best of 2007 thus far. By the way, has anybody seen Point Break?

I saw it last night and I have to say I was very disappointed. There were few audience laughs, so I wasn't the only one bored.SPOILER WARNING The impaling scene and blowing up of the house at the end-WTF was that?

I laugh all the time and I have no idea what everyone is talking about on here...maybe I'm not sophisticated enough. First movie I have ever went to that I walked out on and went to another one...saw 300 instead.

            Re: Hot Fuzz

I didn't like 300 much. But I thought Hot Fuzz was great. As for it being "dumb humor", I think that really depends on what your definition of "dumb" is.

I really don't think Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz constitute "dumb" humor, because they don't resort to crude jokes nearly as much as most "comedies" do.

And I really like how Hot Fuzz actually treated the action drama with respect while still playing for laughs. I thought the last act was really funny, and a great riff on Agatha Christie and action movies in general.

Cliches often used in action movies. What else? They were making fun of how so many action movies deal with a friend dying/on the verge of death and then that friend is alright "one year later", how the hero and everyone are involved in a giant explosion and they're alright while the structure around them gets the most damage, how most villains die a gruesome death only this time the villain gets his jaw impaled and he's still more or less ok.

Saw the movie for the first time last night. Thought it was great.

Will probably watch it 50 more times and like it more and more every time, like Shaun of the Dead.

Despite my "WTF" I got it, but I guess I really didn't want to get it, because I didn't think the movie was at all funny. Although I loved the British "Office" and John Cleese I wasn't a fan of "Faulty Towers" (contradiction) and the "Monty Python" movies (another contradiction),so maybe I don't get SOME British humor.

HAHAHAHA OMG I just saw Hot Fuzz and LOVED it. I had no idea what it was about or what I was getting into and was completely caught off guard. I have never seen Shaun of the Dead but maybe I should if it is similar to Hot Fuzz. Wow... that was great.
                    Spoilers---------

Lol at first I thought it was just some goofy action/mystery movie, that would be more or less straightforward, and then after he leaves the town and stops at the gas station it got RIDICULOUS. Although, with the way people were getting murdered, you could see something absurd was brewing. Some of those deats had me rolling... like the guy walking around with a block for a head hahahhaaha.

I second that, LSU. Hot Fuzz was great. Like Smokin' Aces, I think this will find "its audience" on home video.

Cerebral humor? This movie wasn't that sophisticated.

Well I guess you are right maybe I should have said subtle ... things that arent outright funny but funny when taken into to context

Just saw on DVD. Yes...this is not a cerebral humor oriented movie at all. Not sure where that comes from. And as far as "subtle", Shaun definitely leaned more in that direction (whereby you'd hear a comment or gesture and recognize "oh, that's pretty British"). I thought Shaun was significantly better, but once again, trailers ruined some moments for me. The scene transitions were very similar and maybe even more clever in Fuzz.
