    2Pac

I have to make a connection between a song of my choice and Shakesphere's Othello. My song of choice is Tupac's "Hit 'Em Up." What I have to be able to do is prove how Iago would be Tupac in the song.

So far I know there is a lot of hatred in the song (2pac toward Biggie) and I could relate it to Iago vs. Othello. Also theres some talk about how 2Pac messed with Biggie's wife, but Iago also kinda messed with Desdemona(Othello's wife). There was also a lil bit on other characters as well. And in the end they talked about how in the end they'll all be ruined.

Could some of you just help me out, just to be kinda sure Im on the right track?

You got a neat idea. You certainly can make it work, that is ofcourse if you're familiar with Tupac and Biggie's lives, and the feud between them. Just a couple of notes, Tupac came from BK, just like BIG, and claims Biggie tried having him whacked....I guess "that's why I f-- your wife".

What to you mean "messed with." Do you mean it as in them sleeping together, screwing with their head, or something else?

Iago never slept with Desdemona, he only tricked Othello into believing Desdemona and Cassio were having an affair. Iago also thought Othello slept with Emelia, but that was false. Othello never slept with Emelia, and Iago never slept with Desdemona. And in fact, you could say that Othello never really got to sleep with Desdemona either.

If you mean Iago messed with Desdemona's head, then I think that wouldn't work either. Iago mainly screwed around with Othello, and just planted evidence that made it look like an affair was happening.

Edit; Also take into effect, I've neve heard the Tupac song. So I don't know what that is about,

First off...**** your bitch and the clique you claim, west side when we ride....

The song is one big string of profanities. Have fun playing it for a classroom!

My exact sentiments... Good song; inappropriate for class, though.

                Re: 2Pac

I'm familiar with Othello and Hit Em Up so I'll try to help. The big similarity I see between 2pac's song and Iago is that the motives aren't exactly clear. Iago seems to be purely evil and he manipulates people for no real reason, while 2pac just disses everybody and anybody even if he doesn't really have a good reason to.

Iago claims that he is mad that Othello promoted Cassio and not him, and 2pac is mad that Biggie and Puffy knew he would get shot and didn't warn him. Also, Iago didnt sleep with Desdemona, but he thought Othello slept with his wife. I believe Iago once mentioned that he wanted to sleep with Desdemona to get back at Othello for this, but he never did. 2pac says outright that he slept with Biggie's wife.

Like Othello and Iago, Biggie and 2pac were once very close, and pac mentions this in the song. But while 2pac blatantly says he's going to kill Biggie in the song, Iago manipulates others to do his dirty work. One similarity could be how pac has his "Outlawz" do a lot of the dissing for him in the song.

Also remember that both Othello and Biggie were confused and hurt over why their "friends" turned on them. And 2pac claimed that Biggie copied him and rapped about pac's lifestyle because Biggie was not really from the streets. On the same vein, Othello felt Cassio wasnt a real leiutenant because he has no combat experience, he'd just read about it.
