    Apple iMac?

    Hi all,

One of my PC's is about to go bye bye and I am considering buying an iMac laptop. I currently have a Dell desktop (the one going away) and a Dell laptop and I think I may want to go with Apple just for a different feel.

If any one here has one, can you please give me a quick review as to what I should expect. Something like a pros and cons list maybe?

I am really concerned with battery life and overall reliability with the OS. Windows has too many bugs for my liking and I am hoping Apple does a better job. Maybe those commercials are really twisting my opinions...lol.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Apples are the best.....once you get one and get used to it you will never go back.

I've been thinking about buying an iMac desktop myself. My wife's cousin works with them and swears by them.

I'm so tired of all the MS bullcrap as well. PC's and Windows suck. Too many hassles.

I've only worked with a Mac a handful of times but they seem really cool. It took a while to get used to a one-button mouse and how to navigate the OS. But it only took a few minutes.

And I don't know if you're into this but their movie creation and DVD burning software is awesome.

My wife and I have 4 macs and love them all. I have to use Windows all day here at school, but when I'm at home....ahh the joy.

I haven't had a TON of issues with XP, but I like being able to find and undersand files better than some cryptic files and folders that XP throws in. I can "play around" on the Mac and not feel like I may unknowingly cripple something.

Add to that the fact that all Macs now have Intel chips in them, so if you really need to run Windows, you can open up Parallels or use Boot Camp to solve any Windows-related needs.

btw, are you looking at a Macbook? Just clarifying as there is no iMac notebook.

              Re: Apple iMac?

My wife recently bought an iMac. She hates it, I hate it too. It's on ebay right now. Maybe we've used Windows too long and we're brainwashed or something, but it just felt wrong. Just the operation of it felt awkward. I understand it is differnet, but I didn't think their different made much sense. One of the things that I have always heard about Macs where that they were so easy to use, maybe that is true for someone that doesn't know how to use a PC very well, because I thought the operations of the Mac were way too cumbersome. There was very little on it that was an upgrade from Windows compared to what Windows does easier and has more options to. So many of the iMacs little features that differed from Windows were in my opinion... annoying. Outside of normal Internet stuff like surfing and chatting, what we really use a computer for is programming (me) and photography post-processing (her) and the iMac just didn't cut it for us. The programs I use that work on the Mac work just as well on the PC. Same thing for my wife, except there was one she really thinks is top quality (and free) that blew away iPhoto which we think is not the greatest program in the world. We tried the Parallels thing for the programs that just wouldn't run on a Mac, but that's just gave a workaround to the problem of using the Mac instead of something that made us like a Mac.

In the end, it just didn't make since to use something totally different that for what we do works way better on a PC. We're probably going to lose a couple hundred bucks after selling it on ebay and buying a new PC, but the knowledge of learning that the Mac just wasn't the right fit for us will be worth it.

p.s. Expose' on OSX beats the living crap out of Vista's 3D Flip. It isn't even close.

Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, I am looking at the 13 inch laptop. If I decide to buy the MacBook, it will mainly be used for internet, photos, music, and DVD creation. From your opinions, the MacBook should be a good option for my wife and I.

When I get the programming itch, I could always go back to my Dell.

                  Thanks again all!

I've had my iMac for 4 years now and in that time here is my list of problems with my Mac:

                      It froze up...once.

Otherwise it's been phenomenal and I am definitely never going back to a Windows-based PC. I love Macs.
