A number of eighth graders were in line for the bus at a middle school during the after-hours when a man [accidentally] sped up, jumped the curb, and hit 13 middle school students. Story goes a few were pinned underneath the car, there were serious injuries (all were taken to hospitals), but no deaths. However, one of those that were hit is currently in critical condition and had to be airlifted to a hospital. His chance of living (or dying) is yet to be determined.
Now, here's the kicker: This was my little sister's middle school.
I first found it on a MySpace bulletin, and the instant that I read it, I was scared for my life that my little sister was one of the several that were hit. I called my mom, and she informed me that it wasn't, thankfully! She also said that she didn't know any of the people, but that Kelly (my sister) knew a few of them. While neither of them actually saw the accident, they were present at the school, and got the word during I believe (may have seen the helicopter, I presume).
I don't know if a story like this is newsworthy outside of the local area because there weren't any fatalities (as of yet, of course), so I don't know if this will hit any websites or channels that aren't Bay Area focused, but I'll be sure to try and get more information on this if possible.
Please pray with me that the student (name still unknown) makes a full recovery from this terrible accident.
EDIT: The number was 13 students.
