The TV is an open box display tv at a "bog-box" retailer.
The Tv is a rear projection tv which means the bulb has been burning a lot and will go out w/ in the next 18 months, most likely.
But the protection plan on it is 4 years and cover bulbs and anything else that may go wrong with the tv over the next 4 years. They will sell the plan to me for half price b/c the tv was open bix display. $130 for the plan.
The tv model is a year old model and has been discontinued.
The tv is in good physical shape and has the original remote.
With tax and plan the Tv will be a total of $950 (covering me fully for 4 years).
BUT....
They say that if I want to play PS3 games and watch Blue-Ray I should skip out on this deal and get a 1080p tv. They say w/out 1080p I will be kicking myself later on, no matter how good the 720p deal is.
Is it true that the PS3 requires 1080p to appreciate? Do I have to spend $1500 or more on a TV to appreciate the PS3? To appreciate blue-ray?
I am confused now b/c i was all set to buy this tv and ev'one says it's the best deal on earth...but as soon as I say "I'm getting a PS3 at Christmas" ev'one's opinion on the Samsung deal totally flips and they say "don't do it, get 1080p."
Right now all I have is a 20" sharp tv I bought in 1995 and I am tired of it. All I have right now is $1,000 to spare (towards a tv). Should I save my cash and get 1080p? Or for the same price of a 42" DLP 1080p tv, get the 720p tv AND a PS3.
Please help me!!!!!!!!!!
