    Superman Returns:Sequel

I wanted to post this in the Spiderman topic i created, but it was gona get shuned there.

[QUOTE I'm a nice Superman fan, and i'm wondering whos gona be the bad guy in the next movie? People claim they want lots of action, but Lex isn't the fighting type. Really in the comics and cartoon, the people superman fights are out of this world.

The olny true villain i see superman against is Brainiac, but if he were put in a movie, people would complain. Who the hell can they cast that can give superman lots of fighting action?[/QUOTE]

I mean i never really got into the comics, olny the show that was on WB some time ago back in the 90s. I always thought Superman was awesome. Yet when people complained about Superman Returns, i couldn't help but feel what were they expecting??

I mean c-mon the villain was Lex Luthor. Lex isn't know for fighting. If anything hes a genious who uses his wits. If he were to fight Superman he would get his head ripped. The same would go for his thugs. Now i know people want more action, Superman rescuing people from burning planes and building isn't really action thrilled, but who can they get to fit in this role.

Superman is soo over powered, the olny person who can go head to head with him was Darkside ( i think was his name) and theres no way in the world would they put him in a movie, that'll be like parting aliens in X-men within the Phoenix saga.

I would love a sequel, but who should the bad guy be?

Every superhero has a arc villain

Spidery has quite a few-Venom sticks out as eqaul if not stronger though
    Batman- Th joker
    X-men- The brother hood
    Fantastic- Doom
Superman- has Lex, who else can there be to give the man of steel a fight?

Doomsday too is a good villain, but how would he appear on a big screen. Cause normally they right to stick to a little realism, and Doomsday is just out rageous. Him on the big screen would be like Apocalyse in x-men

You could also use General Zod and the Phantom Zone Kryptonions but it's been done before in SUPERMAN 2 so I dunno.

I don't know how much realism they can stick to in a Superman film. The last one had him flying into space, powering up, and then lifting up an island made of kryptonite.

I think they could write a decent Doomsday plot line.

I think the people that complain are ones who just want balls out action and over the top characters and don't care about developing characters. What sets the Superman movies (minus 3&4) apart from the other superhero flicks is that it has an epic feel to it with classic instrumental music not saturated with music from rock bands. To me it would look ridiculous on screen to have a gigantic Metallo stomping through the streets of Metropolis. I like when comic book elements are used but with a realistic tone. Basically Superman is a less marketable movie as it is geared more towards adults and it is more of a love story which is the love of his kryptonian family, love of his earth family and the love of his life Lois Lane. I would rather read a comic not watch one on screen because what you would end up with is another Batman and Robin and you all know how that one turned out.

They are actually making a Doomsday animated movie, that should be cool to watch. I think there are quite a few good enemies that could be in a Superman movie. Obviously Luthor can be involved in many different ways, the movie franchise seems to like him better as a sinister genius with a bit of a goofy side rather than his scientific genius side, but that's cool. General Zod is always a cool villian as well as Metallo. I'm not sure why Metallo would have to be some giant? He's usually just a cyborg man powered by kryptonite and has Luthor pulling his strings. Metallo just couldn't stand on his own like Zod or Brainiac. Having Darkseid in a movie would be awesome, but I don't know how well that would work. Darkseid is such a galactic enemy, so I've always wondered how they could fit that in a movie if they want to keep characters like Lois, Jimmy, and the gang as major parts.

Well i guess this is what the director/producers and company are faced with, with doing this sequel.

Cause seriously who can they put into the movie that would appeal to everyone and still be action packed, without losing too much character developement?

I for one am going with Brainiac, i think hes a stellar character for superman to face off against? I mean for one, he's super smart. Plus he wouldn't be too out of this world to include in a movie (sry Darksied/Doomsday)

I'd be willing to bet it the Transformers movie does well then we could see a mega villain like Doomsday or Darkside. If they look at the cartoon and comics Superman has so many more villains to fight than Lex Luthor.

Sadly i don't like the art direction for Transformers. I mean, i know thier robots and all, but damn to they look roboty. In the show they at least had almost human like qaulities. This time around thier pure metal junk

Back to Superman, Brainiac for the win

Well, considering BRAINIAC worked out pretty-well in SMALLVILLE, I think he'd be a good candidate for the sequel. Nothing over-the-top is needed to make him work, just the right actor. He essentially is like Superman, except he has a large ship that he can clone himself from.

Can I just say this tho, can we at least have the character development of the kid (I forget his name) explored more at least. I don't want people to sweep it under the rug because I found it fascinating even tho the vibe i've gotten from Superman fans is that they hated it.

I have a feeling that the kid will end up with superpowers similar to Supes and face off against him in the 3rd movie (if it gets that far)

I fully agree. Lex is Sups main enemy. What they need to do is have a villain that Lex can be responsible for while trying to defeat Superman using his greatest power - his evil genius.

I read a script that was originally supposed to be the movie but was later scrapped. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than the actual movie.

In this adaption Lex Luthor is shown to be a very rich, highly regarded business men with immense global power. In one scene it is revealed that one of the many scientists he employs has discovered the cure for cancer. But since they can't get the billions he's asking he decides to keep the cure to himself until the right price comes along.

Later in the script Lex creates Metallo. Just like from the cartoon, he plays mind games with him and makes him believe that this operation will make his life better.
At first they make Metallo look like a good guy. He helps Superman out in certain situations and even saves his life on one occasion when Kryptonite is in play (of course, all of these situations are manufactured by Lex to help build up Metallo's popularity and Supermans trust).
But of course, in the end, Metallo tries to kill Superman. Superman triumphs, Metallo is pissed at Luthor for being transformed into a monster but nothing is linked back to Luthor who escapes from any legal or physical harm.

Dude that sounds leaps and bounds better than what they delivered to us last year, not to dog on Superman Returns, but damn would this script have been 10xs better, plus it sounds alot more action packed.
