    Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen

I've been gradually picking up Bruce's releases in chronological order (so far I have Greetings from Ashbury Park, NJ and The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle) and I'm seeing how great of an artist he is. So much more than his hit singles can ever give him credit. Personally, I'd take Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) over Born to Run or Born in the USA any day.

Anyway, I was curious which album(s) everybody thought were his best.

I don't think you can go wrong with Nebraska or his breakthrough album Born to Run.

Thunder Road, Badlands, 10th Ave Freezeout, and Born to Run all on one album is remarkable.

Rosolita is a great song as well. Springsteen as a musician is underrated.

PBS recently showed a Springsteen concert in which he played bluegrass/folksong type music and it was very good. I'm not really familiar with his music and/or albums, but his wife looks fantastic.

Springsteen is my favorite musician, it's hard to pick my favorite album. I love his live stuff the most, so what gets the most air time for me is the Live 1975-1985 3-CD set and the Live from NY are my favorites. As for just straight studio albums, either Nebraska, Born to Run, or The Rising. One album that doesn't get enough love is Tunnel of Love, there are some awesome songs on it.

I'm a huge Springsteen fan...even went to 4 shows during the summer of 2003. I'd rate his albums in this order but this list would probably change based on what mood I'm in. (excluding the live ones)

          1. Darkness on the Edge of Town
          2. Born to Run
          3. The River
          4. The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle
          5. Born in the USA
          6. The Rising
          7. Greetings from Asbury Park
          8. Tunnel of Love
          9. Nebraska
          10. Lucky Town
          11. Human Touch
          12. We Shall Overcome: Seeger Sessions
          13. Devils & Dust
          14. Ghost of Tom Joad

I should say that I like his rock music more than his folk music. I also think there's some brilliant songs on Tracks (4 disks of unreleased music).

I've always really liked "Downbound Train" off of Born in the USA.

Now, I agree his earlier stuff is great. Thunder Road is one of my all time favorite songs.

            Springsteen is a great songwriter.

Side two of Born to Run is phenomenal--Born To Run, Meeting Across the River and especially Jungleland.

The live versions of The River from Live 1975-1985 or Live in NYC are both money.

The album listen to most is Live 1975-1985, it's got all his great songs. And the hits he had on the radio, none of them were very good IMO. His best stuff is what most of the public has never heard.
