Yes, I realize that... but I also know that they "recruit" for Survivor, Big Brother, etc... at modeling agencies, acting studios, etc...
They have been doing this since the beginning. They throw 2-3 people who actually are fans of the show and not "connected", but most of these people are not just ordinary people off the street. They want to create drama and get ratings and ordinary sane people don't act like that, specially on TV for the world to see.

Not that some real estate show is big news but it makes you wonder how many other 'reality' shows are scripted. For example does American Idol fix the results to get higher ratings?
I think everyone knows that most, if not all reality shows are scripted.

Re: A&E Reality Show Exposed as a Fraud

As for Survivor, barring a Ewing to the Knicks type of conspiracy could you imagine if they just drew names from a hat on live television to announce the contestants. Do that and I may again watch. I liked Survivor the first year as it actually felt real, but as soon as season 2 started it was obvious to me that "it" that made Survivor special the first time wasn't there anymore and I haven't watched since.

I get the feeling that the 'reality' TV genre is in for a Quiz Show like falling out within the next couple of years.

Well there is "scripted" then there is completely made up. Check out this story and see how far on the latter side it falls.

I reallllllyyyyyy hope all these crappy "reality" shows go out of existence. I like the documentary type of reality shows like Little People Big World but these game shows have just ruined tv for me.

So nothing. I made an observation... however, I disagree that most are normal people. I think producers conveniently leave off people's actual resume when they list their occupations. Chip & Kim and Uchena & Joyce, both Million Dollar Winners on The Amazing Race, never once were mentioned during their seasons that they were actors.... yet they are all four actors.

Bottomline is that it all goes back to the premise that reality TV ended with Real World 1. After that, people had an idea about what it was and how they could benifit from it. The first season of most reality shows is the closest they will ever get, but even at that.... it's all smoke and mirrors.

Take this year, Sanjayah stayed around long enough to generate ratings but not enough to tarnish their precious Idol Gives Back. It isn't like he ever stayed over someone who had a chance to win the show.
actually Sanjayah was only around because of a thing that was going around where people wanted to try and keep on the worst singer on the show, to see if he could win....It was also started by Howard Stern that got people to vote for Sanjayah to stay on...it was pure comedy

At that Clay, there were several aspiring actors on the original Real World.

I know that is what was believed to be true, but in reality I believe Fox was milking that angle for its own shameless self promotion. It just seemed very convenient he went the week before Idol Gives Back when ironically he wasn't the worst of the bunch the previous night.

Don't feel stupid, A&E claims that the episodes featuring this guy were the only ones like this. Besides it is television and is meant for entertainment. This isn't like Dan Rather making up the news or anything.

I'll take the ones from 10 years ago.............maybe.

IIRC the people on the second Real World actually (the one with the Hispanic guy who died from AIDS) had legit jobs, one was a med student another was in corrections.
