Went to my first movie screening last night (New Coen Brothers' Flick)

So my buddy called me yesterday and said he and his girlfriend each got a pass to see a movie screener when they were at the mall and they could each bring a guest. After some prior plans fell through, I tagged along with them.

The movie is called "No Country for Old Men."

I didn't know much about the movie, but I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes and it had no reviews and a November release. I saw the cast was pretty impressive (Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, etc.)

The only Coen Brothers' movie I have seen is Raising Arizona (I know, I know), and it was fairly enjoyable, and I know the Coens are pretty well-known in the Biz, so I was excited to check it out.

They said we were one of the first audiences to see the movie... so that was cool.

So my take on the film without giving anything away...

It kind of reminded me of a Tarantino movie in the respect that it was pretty violent and bloody.

    It was VERY well-acted.

The story line was good and interesting, and it led you to root for a bad guy (kind of a lesser of the two evils type deal).

Tommy Lee Jones was barely in the movie and annoying when he was... He's just a name to sell the movie. His part has little importance. And he talked FOR SO LONG on a few occasions in the movie.

The movie ran right around 2 hours, give or take 4 or 5 minutes. However, the last half-hour drug on VERY long. I cant really say why without giving away story line, but it is my major gripe about the movie. That and an unusual ending that leaves no closure at all.

    Overall grade: C

All in all: It had its exciting moments with a good story line and was very well-acted. However, it drug on very long as I had no interest in the last half-hour of the movie. And the ending sucked.

I'm interested to see if any changes are made to the movie between now and its November release. We had to fill out a survey thing at the end. I dont know if they are using it to tweak the movie or just for advertising purposes or what.
