    Charles Nelson Reilly

    An American icon has passed.

Charles Nelson Reilly at the age of 76 due to complications from pneumonia.

I was just watching him on Match Game last night.

I always wondered what he did before he was on those shows. If he just died at 76, he was in his mid-40's on Match Game, I thought he was much older.

Remember him mostly from Match Game in the 70's. Aside from a couple of Match Game reruns on GSN about three years ago I haven't seen him on the tube since the 70's. I wouldn't give him icon status, but he was a significant contributer to the annals of TV history.

Wait till you hit 46, and then you'll see. He's about 50 in this pic and pretty much looks it.

How sad. I remember watching him on Hollywood Squares growing up. The guy was a real trip. Ahead of his time with double-entendres that were hilarious.

        RIP.

Not as obvious as Paul Lynde.

I loved Alec Baldwin's impression of him on SNL during the James Lipton "Inside The Actor's Studio" skit.

Wow I didn't know he was in his mid 40s during the Match Game era. The man looked like he was in his late 50s at least. Anyways RIP to one of the icons of the game show world.

                    Re: Charles Nelson Reilly

He was some kind of pesky neighbor or businessman on a TV show in the late 60's entitled "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" which also featured Hope Lange. His trademark laugh was first demonstrated on that show.

                        Re: Charles Nelson Reilly

He came to fame by starring in the Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really trying, as Bud Frump...the big boss's nephew who no one liked and who was the main antogoinist for Robert Morse, as J. Pierpont Finch.

He went on to star in other Broadway plays and tv shows, but a generation will remember him from Match Game. he once said, "once you do game shows, you can never act again."

Funny funny guy, who was out of the closet long before it was fashionable. Talented director and actor...

Geez I already thought he was dead. I guess he's in the same category as Soupy Sales, Neil Sedaka and Nipsy Russel. Entertainers that fell so far off the radar you're not sure if they're still with us.
