I know this is the Mac lovers thread, but if all you are going to do is browse facebook and write papers paying twice as much doesn't really make it a better investment. Employers and teachers are going to have MS Office and will want stuff in that format. So even if you get a Mac you are still going to be using MS Office.

Right, but you know you can run windows natively on a Mac right? Either using using bootcamp or using a VM.

For me one of the biggest advantages is having all the good stuff of Mac OS, and having a VM running in a window that's running Windows 7 natively.

If I was a hardcore gamer, I'd buy something else, but for day to day usage, nothing beats the design and versatility of a Mac imo.

The ability to run both Operating systems was what brought me to Apple. I use the Office suite on Windows via boot camp, but I use iLife, Keynote and all things Adobe on the Mac side.

My Acer laptop is about to crap out so I am looking for a used/refurbished Macbook right now. The only things that I am planning on doing with it is web browsing, and some word processing. I was checking out Ebay, do any of these look like they can handle what I want to do.

If you're looking for a "cheap" system, you want the white unibody Macbook at the least.

It's the only one that will run the latest OS. All the other plastic Macbooks are considered "outdated" in terms of OS support.

Your best bet is to find a silver unibody Macbook Pro since it will most likely be supported longer.

What's the advantages of paying a couple extra hundred bucks for a macbook with the latest OS versus saving some money and getting one of the older ones? Again, all I'm looking for is a dependle laptop that I will not have to replace for a few years. My luck with PCs has not bee very good.

That's one of the best things about buying Mac. They hold their value for a long time. Some people are turned off buy them because they can be looked at as "status symbols." Even though some people are ridiculously vain like that, they really are great machines.

When you pay three times the actual value of the hardware you're purchasing it better hold some kind of value.

Because you're also making sure your computer will be secure for the next few years. Plus, the extra features are nice.

If you're not going to use any of them (and it's impossible to tell if you would want to use new, unreleased features NOW) then you're ok with the older system.

I'm sure you will be fine either way.

Got my 13" Macbook Pro earlier in the summer, loving it so far. I know the risk is very low compared to a PC, but is there a whole lot to worry about virus wise and if so are there any programs I should get.

I'm an Apple junkie, with an Ipod, Iphone, and Macbook Air.

I just can't justify purchasing the damned Ipad.

Just bought a used 2011 MacBook Pro. In near perfect condition and the guy upgraded it so it runs triple the performance of the original retail version.

Finally upgraded my 2009 Macbook unibody from 1 GB of RAM to 6 GBs...What a huge difference.

I just can't justify purchasing the damned Ipad.

We haven't used our iPad in months. Most pointless thing we bought in the last 2 years.
