      Re: Knocked Up

This has to be one of the more OS overrated films in awhile. There was absolutely nothing that great about it. I'm glad I waited till it was in the two-dollar theater to see it. This was a step well below Superbad, 40-Year Old, etc.

I get it that it wasn't meant to be a pure comedy, but the mixture of the semi-drama/comedy did not work whatsoever. A lot of the jokes made by the loser friends and the unhappy husband drew no reaction from me.

First of all the pregnant woman is just not a worthy actress for a protagonist role. She fell well short in my book. I also feel the same but to a lesser extent about the main character male as well. Actually the more I think about it, the more I'm seeing that the four main characters in the film are best suited as supporting roles rather than having the film being centered on them.

This just simply didn't capture my imagination or have me slapping my knees.

Personally, I found 40 Year Old Virgin to be pretty worthless after the first viewing. There's really nothing left to see after you watch it.

Knocked Up, I felt, was the perfect balance between a character/plot driven movie and a comedy. When I saw, it I thought it was hilarious and the whole plot/drama/etc wasn't corny or cheesy like with Wedding Crashers or any other of these new comedies that try to force character development, story, and an ending in the last 30 minutes. I felt like the cast was great, personally, especially Paul Rudd and the actress who played his wife on screen - I thought that foil was terrific in the movie.

          Re: Knocked Up

I finally saw this in my preparation of going to see Superbad....

Now granted....I watched it with a mormon friend of mine...but this movie was just not funny to me. To me it was almost purely pop culture references and ad-libbed "sitting around the camp fire dirty talking".

          I think I laughed 3 or 4 times.....but those 3 or 4 were some good lines.

On the whole....it wasn't even that it was vulgar or profane.....I just didn't hear any comedy in it.

"See ya Scorcese on Coke" is terrible, terrible dialogue.....and it just kept coming.

5-10 years down the road half of the "jokes" won't even make sense because all the pop culture references will be pointless. When the shoebomber is referenced TWICE...and it is not a documentary about the shoebomber....there is a problem.

Its not like all the pop culture references are really current other than the shoe-bomber ones. The "beard" jokes that stick out are the Lennon, Cat Stevens, Crocket & Tubbs, and when Martin says "**** me in the beard." Not really relevant to today's pop culture scene.

To me, Knocked Up was much more than a simple comedy. I loved the story and the dialogue, but I thought the best part about the movie was the cast. This is definitely a movie that I will have pre-ordered.

Yup, it was more than just a comedy, it had a really good story.

Paul Rudd stole the movie though.

Definitely. The whole fantasy football thing was hilarious. I loved how they built that up.

                          Picked up the DVD today.

The DVD comes with a slipcase and then once you open up the box.... BAM..... The Year 2000 called and they want their disc art back.

Perhaps this is just the Canadian version, but the disc art is terrible. Actually there isn't any art/pictures at all on the disc.

I popped in the disc and a promo for Heroes on Global showed up.

This disc is packed with special features and it's going to take me awhile to go through it all.
