    Ruffian

    History written:

Ruffian chronicles the real-life romance of a famous filly and the afternoon that forever changed our love affair with the track. SATURDAY JUNE 9 at 9PM ET, ABC

I am just curious how many people will be viewing this movie next Saturday night or maybe in the future on DVD. Especially with the success of Seabiscuit and then the concern about Barbaro after his tragedy. The story of Ruffian was the original tragedy. She was a superstar.

This movie was produced by ESPN. There are other factors involved as well but the most important reason that I will be watching is because my uncle, Jacinto Vasquez, was the regular jockey that rode this famous filly. He missed two riding assignments due to ridiculous suspensions. He also had ridden the 1975 Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure. He made the decision to ride Ruffian in the great match race because she was "the best horse" that he ever rode.

The movie will probably be directed toward the relationship of Ruffian and her trainer Frank Whiteley, who is being played by Sam Shephard. I am also curious how they will play-out the part of my uncle. My uncle is not easy to get along with and, quite frankly, was not well liked because he spoke his mind. I'm also interested how they will represent my uncle because he would not accept the $10,000 offer to use his likeness in the movie. I'm not sure how that will play-out and the legal side of using his likeness.

Here are some quick facts at Wikipedia about Jacinto Vasquez and Ruffian.
