Sirius satellite radio questions
I'm planning on buying Sirius radio for my wife since her new job is going to require a 30-35 minute commute and she hates local radio. Is it worth getting the radio hardwired into the car ($30 installation at Circuit City) so that you don't need to plug it in to a cigarette lighter? Are there any advantages/disadvantages? Anyone have any issues with the Sirius radio setup either way? Her car has an extra lighter, so she could still charge her phone with the Sirius plugged in. Thanks.Tags: None -
Re: Sirius satellite radio questions
my unit is the Xact Visor mount radio.. reason I got it is so that I can listen to it at home and on the road.. right now, it's mainly my home unit, since I usually now listen to my iPod on the way to work.. Also, since I use a company car, I really can't hard-wire anything into my car.
One more good thing about non- hard-wired items- you can take them with you when you get home.. I am always paranoid that someone will take something from my car, so I simply just pop it out.
Conversely, you may get better sound quality with the wired in units -

I have a Sirius Starmate which mounts to the car. You install a cradle that comes with it to your dash and the Starmate just slides in it. I have another cradle in my car and in my wife's car and just put the Starmate in whichever one I'm driving. You can get a home cradle as well. This way you only need one Sirius subscription between the cars and home.
My car has an extra cigarette lighter, so the cradle is plugged into it. My wife's car only has one lighter, so it is wired into the accessories of the car so that I didn't lose the lighter.
