I did the credit card with 90 days same as cash, that gives me a little time to pay it off before the interest hits. I'll have it paid off in about 3 weeks, but that way I didn't have to pay all the $ up front.

Cheapest I've seen is to get the $30/month pay as you go plan + data = $50/month. But it doesn't include text messaging, minutes are terribly low...

AT&T just made a huge comeback with this phone. It's amazing how much they are overcharging....

I agree it's high if you've never had a data plan, but it's actually quite a bit cheaper than I was paying with Verizon with my voice + data plan and I didn't have unlimited text messaging with them either. So other than the phone, I'm actually saving money.

With Sprint you can easily get about 400 minutes, 500 text messages, unlimited data for about $35/month. You just have to know what you're doing.

thats a helluva deal with unlimited data.

I know the ATT plan for everything is cheaper than blackberry plans

JP Morgan analyst Kevin Chang today put out the word that, according to unnamed sources in Apple's manufacturing supply chain and a patent application filed on July 5th, a smaller, cheaper iPhone based upon the iPod nano is well on its way to production.

The patent application suggests the iPhone-nano will employ a traditional Click Wheel instead of the iPhone's multi-touch interface, so as not to cannibalize sales of the higher-end model. JP Morgan expects Apple to launch this lower-end model for less than $300 to attract the particularly price-conscious American mass-market. Most interesting is JP Morgan's speculation the iPhone-nano will launch before the end of 2007, which is somewhat earlier than most expected to see an iPhone follow-up.

I like the idea of a cheaper iphone, but removing the touch interface seems to defeat the purpose of the iphone.

No, it's something that anyone can get right now with Sprint.

I ended up holding off on the phone. 8 GB just won't be enough for me, I know it. My issue is more with AT&T than the phone at this point. Plus, buying it for use as an iPod is silly... $600 for a 8GB touchscreen iPod.... that might not even be able to be activated using a hack once a firmware release happens... too risky and not a worthwhile investment.

The iPhone isn't a 600 dollar ipod. It's not a 600 dollar phone. And it's not an investment because electronics don't appreciate in value.

He asked me a question and I answered. I also gave a follow up as to why I didn't think it was financially sound for me to pick up the iPhone that I planned on purchasing earlier in the day. I wrote investment b/c time and money I would be investing into trying to make the phone an iPod wouldn't be worthwhile to me.

You really need to take a deep breath and step AWAY from the computer. It's a discussion and you seem to only jump in when I post. If my posts on the subject bother you THAT much, something is seriously wrong.
