Instructions up on how to get the $100 store credit. Seems painless. Requests for $100 must be submitted by 11/30/07. Glancing at the fine print, looks like there is no restrictions on what it can be spent on.

Edit: Just did it, took about 30 seconds. You have to enter your phone # and the serial #, then they send you a text with an access code that you enter and you're done. It gives you a credit # and a pin # to either use online or you can print it out and use it in store.

I guess that's good if you have t-mobile. Otherwise what's the point. T-mobile and ATT are the only two networks this runs on. I guess if you are in Europe this is great news.

What is that supposed to mean? It runs on T-Mobile, Cingular and AT&T here in the US. Add Rogers in Canada. I wouldn't know about Europe but it doesn't matter because Apple will be announcing their partnership with Deutsche Telekom (aka T-Mobile) soon.

Are you expecting it to be unlocked to work with Verizon and Sprint? You'll be waiting a long time, I'll tell you that much.

It's funny how you downplay every thing that gets posted about the iPhone now yet you were in <3 just a little while ago. I would think after your last post that you would do some more research before making a negative comment.

I don't see the big deal about his post. Technically Cingular doesn't exist anymore, so it's just TMobile and AT&T and TMobile isn't even available in a lot of the US. For me, I'm paying next to no attention to all this unlock business because a) T-Mobile isn't available in Knoxville and b) it's not a big deal IMO until it gets unlocked for Sprint/Verizon, which like you said, won't be happening anytime soon.

Of course you don't care about the unlock info... it's information that is there for those that do NOT have an iPhone connected because they don't want to deal with AT&T. An alternative is always nice and that's why the info is there.

I have the iPhone with ATT. And this is really a non-issue. You only get two networks. Everyone is making a big thing about unlocking the iphone. My point is you get one additional network and get it to work in canada. That's great if you are on Roger's or T-mobile.

If by unlocking the iPhone that would have put it on all networks, that would have been huge. I probably wouldn't have switched. But since that's not possible the market the unlocking the iphone allows is so small this whole thing has been blown up.

It's not a big deal because the T-mobile market is so low that there are too few to make a serious impact on the iPhone. Here's who the unlocking iphone is intended for. Those that want an iPhone. Those that know what unlocking is. Those that want to use t-mobile or rogers. That number is maybe in the thousands in the US. Joe Consumer doesn't know about unlocking.

This whole unlocking business is for geeks who want to be the first to unlock the iPhone. It's not like the Apple Boot Camp where windows could run on a mac. That was a huge boost for Apple. Here unlocking the iPhone market segment is so low that this is more about saying, we unlocked the iPhone than offering a key feature to a majority of iPhone users or potential iPhone customers.

In other words, it doesn't affect you so it's not a big deal. Like I wrote before it's information available to those who don't want to deal with AT&T's network. It's now available for use by Canada's largest wireless carrier. But, like you mentioned, the market is small.

This now increases sales as those who originally did not have the option of using the phone now do.

And please don't compare this to running windows on a Mac. Apples and Oranges. (No pun intended... ha)

I don't remember who it was that said TMobile was in Knoxville (don't feel like going back), well they aren't. It's only roaming coverage here

That was I. I noticed the green dots and it looked like coverage to me. What's the difference with T-Mobile "roaming" coverage and regular coverage?

From the map if the green coverage area doesn't depict T-Mobile coverage then they don't cover anywhere in the US. I'm probably reading it wrong but I don't see any "regular" coverage shown anywhere.
