Re: Sarah Connor Chronicles - Terminator TV show for the fall

I really enjoyed the pilot and first episode, I think that this is going to be a good show with time. I think the key to Terminator here is that their spending time developing the characters further than we knew them in first 2 movies. I have also reviewed last nights episode.

Re: Sarah Connor Chronicles - Terminator TV show for the fall

The second episode was better than the first. Their structure is still clumsy, and there were still some secondary characters with abysmal acting (that bearded dude in the apt at the end--whoa), but the Sarah Conner actress is clearly more comfortable with the drama at this point in the series, while Summer River seems to be determined to stumble and bumble her way through the sci fi parts. John's story was a little disjointed and inconclusive, but there wasn't anything terrible about it. Summer shooting the old man was handled well, and had probably the best moments of the whole series so far dramatically.

Man, you do know that Summer's blank stare is part of the role, right?

They are trying...a little poorly, like you say, but trying...I'm not sure I'm sold yet, but I do have a little more hope...I'll give it longer than I normally would just cause not much else new is worth watching, but they need to keep improving. I think they can reach a good point though.

I would just give it a few more episodes before totaling torching the show. It has some issues, but I think that episode 2 was much better than the pilot so things could be looking up for those that don't care for the show right now.

We definitely see different things then.

Lena Headey (Sarah Connor) handles her scenes well. The emotional moment with Cameron (female Terminator) was NOT handled well. She went from emotionally hurt to I don't care in an instant. Not a lot of actors can handle that sort of emotion well and Lena joins the list of those that can not.

Yea, I agree. I think she's good for the role. And while I never liked the kid that plays John Connor (he was bad on Heroes too), at least he sorta looks like an older John Connor. So it works in that way.

I've never seen her not do that in anything ever. There was some sci fi channel thing that came on about two days ago, and I think she was just a high school student or something. She was doing it. Damned sci fi acting.

Whenever I compliment the show, you can just assume that I'm excluding Summer River from the scene. I'm just talking about what the writers gave Lena to do, and how she handled it. She's simultaneously trying to reconcile her present, her future and her shifting role in an increasingly bizarre world. That was a legitimate attempt at drama, and that's what I'm complimenting.

                    CAMERON GUNS DOWN OLD MAN.

                    SARAH
                    (crying)

                    Why did you do that?

                    Cameron

                    Because you wouldn't.

                    Sarah

                    You don't know what I wouldn't do.

And then after that, Lena shows that she doubts her own words. So we can see her caught between old Sarah Connor and the as yet to be determined future Sarah Connor. They laid out the foundation for the emotional obstacles she'll have to face in her decision making while simultaneously having conflict between her and Cameron. I applaud the subtext, and the job Lena did in that scene, as well as the writer putting it there for her to work from.

Another solid episode. I really like how they've spilled the war from the future into the past. It will be interesting to see how Sarah and John interact with the people from the future (unless they've been already killed by a Terminator).

I like it, but we need more to watch in an episode then this...

                        1. Sarah, Friendly Terminator, John walk into new town. Think they're safe.

                        2. Bad Terminators show up.

                        3. Shooting ensues.

                        4. Sarah and Co. escape, go to new house, town, etc.

                        5. Bad Terminators show up.

                        6. Shooting ensues. Rinse and repeat.

me too, and I agree with AA. We need a bit more than just "bad Terminators show up". I think (and hope) that more plot will be added with regards to that, it's just they have to set it up (the bad terminators don't know about John yet, etc). Just makes me wonder what exactly each ep will be about, how they'll be structured...any multi-ep arcs? Ongoing stuff besides the skynet plot?

I do agree with born on some things though.....if they don't continue to work on character development I'll be gone. I like where they're going, but it'd be way too easy to just go with the full action and nothing else type of show.
