For those who are thinking that it's safe, it degrades your calcium in your body too. There was an article somewhere, probably on this site, pointing to a link on what it does to your body. If not here, somewhere on the internet. Just because your stomach produces HCL doesn't mean that your body is immune to more acid. That acid in your stomach can cause ulcers if in there too long or even tear up the lining in your throat. What happens when you put more acid on top of acid in your stomach? That can't be good.
Is this real!? WTF does Pepsi put into their soda/pop?

This probably isn't good for me, considering I drink 4-5 sodas a day.Comment

Re: Is this real!? WTF does Pepsi put into their soda/pop?

the mucosal lining of your GI pathway is incredibly resistant to acidic conditions (if it weren't, your stomach acids would destroy your stomach). The worst thing about drinking a lot of soda is the sugar aspect and the probable weight gain as a result. The pH/acidity of the soda causing ulcers and degrading the calcium in your body are both common misconceptions. For those who are thinking that it's safe, it degrades your calcium in your body too. The fact that two of that guys sources were Wikipedia has me questioning that, since I could go into the "sugar" wikipedia thing right now and subtly add in: "intake of too much sugar can potentially lead to degrading calcium."Comment

Nice link, 2 can play that game

I do want to point out that

"Some experts point out that the amount of phosphoric acid in soda is minimal compared to that found in chicken or cheese. And no one's telling women to stop eating chicken."

So I would argue that it's hardly a proven fact that soda alone causes loss of bone density.

edit: although i will agree with you and mostly everyone on here that a drinking cola-based sodas on a regular basis just isn't good for you.Last edited by rubisco43; 06-07-2007, 09:31 PM.Comment

Hmm...I didn't know it helps you gain weight. I guess I'll have to start drinking it more often, seems easier than lifting.Comment

admittedly, it was more to do with calcium than the ill effects of soda Comment

yeah, it's way too easy to get scared by crap if you let it. Do you know how likely it is for one of us to die in a car crash? Much much more likely than a plane crash or anything like that, but we still drive every day. Fried foods are bad for us, tons of stuff...just use moderation and you'll be fine.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Is this real!? WTF does Pepsi put into their soda/pop?

there's no doubt that a cola-based drinking habit does indeed have detrimental effects in bone density. But the question is whether or not it's the cola or the lack of intake of "healthy" drinks that causes it. Regardless, drinking soda every once in a while isn't gonna kill you, but it honestly has very little health benefits.Comment

LOL, I do hope your joking. Comparing weight lifting to drinking empty calories is apples and oranges. But if your goal is to become a fat man then drink up.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
