Anyone else like the new single off this album, "Icky Thump"

I loved it when I heard it last night, so I decided to download the new album. So far, not too bad. Haven't really listened to enough to get an opinion because I keep listening to Icky Thump.

    5. Bone Broke
    6. Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn

That new single is one of the most catchiest songs I've heard in years. Amazing...a definite must-buy for me. I love the white strips!

I'm just waiting for the album to release so Jack White can be arrested. We have hard evidence there on Icky Thump of him completely molesting a guitar and he deserves to be locked up. I mean, you can hear that guitar screaming for help as he's playing it. He doesn't even give it mercy.

Jack White has already been arrested for assault.

                bump.

It came out in stores today. I've only listened to it once, but it definitely sounds like a throwback to their first couple of albums, although it is less blues-y than their debut. The title track isn't as catchy as I thought it would be, definitely the least catchy lead single they've released since they became popular. "You Don't Know What Love Is" is a very good track, sounds like a more rocking version of "You're Pretty Good Looking" to me. "Conquest" is a cool cover. I was driving so I didn't get to listen to most of the rest of the album too closely, but "Effect & Cause" was one that stood out.

I heard a preview of the single last night on AOTS, I liked it. May give it a download.

I gave it a listen through once. I like it considering I'm really only a casual TWS fan. I personally like You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)

that's what I thought. It's very old school white stripes.

I would say I'm a big White Stripes fan and this album took a few listens to get into it, but after that it's just as good as the rest. So far I really like Catch Hell Blues, You Don't Know What Love Is ,I'm Slowly Turning Into You, and it took a few listens but Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn is really good but really different with the bagpipes.

"A Martyr...." and "Bone Broke" are the only two songs that I haven't really caught onto yet. I don't like the spoken parts of "Rag & Bone", but the music and singing are great. And I don't really like "St. Andrew", it is a weak Meg track. Overall a pretty good album I think, it certainly isn't as immediately catchy as really any of their last 4 albums, but the songs are all pretty good after you hear them a few times.

Re: The White Stripes: "Icky Thump"

I've been at the beach and without a computer since the album came out, but I've been listening to it since Tuesday.

Immediately you can tell its The White Stripes coming back to their old form, unlike on Get Behind Me Satan. Jack maintains their old form, yet they're still going for new ground. Some of the touches are subtle, some of them are outlandish (ala Get Behind Me Satan), but its definitely The White Stripes. Instant favorites of mine were/are: Conquest (I hope they play this live), Prickly Thorn, Sweetly Worn, Little Cream Soda, and Catch Hell Blues. Effect and Cause gives off a very vivid Son House vibe. You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told) is country while not approaching corny (Little Ghost). I agree with CM that St. Andrews is a weak Meg track. I really like the sound of her voice as In the Cold Cold Night is one of my favorite White Stripes songs and I thought Passive Manipulation was good, but I would have liked to heard a song develop around that great chorus. St. Andrews is just there. Very odd and you can barely hear Meg. Rag and Bone is quirky and I like it.

Overall I think its another fantastic album in the White Stripes discography and I can't wait to see which songs they play live in July.
