Re: My Lip Gloss is poppin
Agreed. I was impressed with her "acapella" drop. It has me wondering if "Lipgloss" is just a commercial track to get her popular with the kids and perhaps her album might have quality rhymes in it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: My Lip Gloss is poppin
I work in a Night Club on the weekends.
To be completely honest...all of the current hip hop/rap hits make me wanna puke.
If I have to hear that damn "Glamorous" song one more time by Fergie I'm gonna take a Mac-10 out and start mowing people down.
I'd much rather listen to the Spooks, Old School 2 Live Crew, NWA, N2Deep, etc. than have to stomach one more "Laffy Taffy", "Lip Gloss", "Glamorous", "Fergilicious", or any of the other mindless pieces of crap aimed at 12 year old girls.
Also, Laffy Taffy aimed at twelve year old girls? They must have some rough twelve year old girls where you come. I'm not so sure you quite grasp the song. It's called a club hit for a reason. If I am riding around in my car and laffy taffy comes on I skip it, but when I'm up in the club and that song comes on it's alright. Same goes with party like a rockstar, didn't like it until I heard it at a party or club, now its alright but only on the occasions mentioned.Last edited by VTPack919; 06-26-2007, 07:40 PM.YNWAComment

Re: My Lip Gloss is poppin
I finally heard it on the radio (which I never listen to) and wanted to kill myself but listened all the way through just to see what the deal is with it.
Edit: another part of this is that dancing in clubs to hip hop songs has become a joke. Because all we get is this crappy "club music," everyone has now adopted this lame style of "dancing." Learn how to dance and you can actually have fun dancing to songs like "Good Clothes" by Little Brother. Just because the vocals don't exactly match up with the beat it will never be a club song but theres no reason you can't have a good time dancing to it and not look like a fool. Of course, dancing to hip hop music is a lost art......a problem nobody ever talks about.Last edited by mike01; 06-26-2007, 07:50 PM.Comment

Re: My Lip Gloss is poppin
True...but, it IS possible to come up with a catchy song to dance to without being completely ridiculous and a total embarrassment to society like the Lip Gloss song and half the other crap that is out today. Like that Pop Lock and Drop it song isn't even catchy actually...its just shoved down our throats by the industry so people think they are supposed to like it. And once again its terrible.

Also, it may be mindless music, but its fun. Its very hard to mix a very sentimental deep song with a club beat and make it relevant. That is reason why the songs are to deep, they are for fun. Mix a deep song like "stan" from eminem with the laffy taffy beat, you see what I'm saying. I agree these songs are mindless but an embarassment to society, eh, i don't know they are fun to dance to and that is their purpose.YNWAComment

The people in the club however would not. I know personally, when I go to the club I'd rather be dancing to "Buy U a Drank" and having fun than listening to "straight outta compton". Albeit a good song, it's just a little hard to dance too.

Re: My Lip Gloss is poppin
You sir, get it. I'd like to think that there is room in hip hop for fun songs that are nice to dance to in the club. To call these songs an "embarrasment to society" is a little out there. If you don't like it, you don't like it, no need to hate. Same as VT, I don't listen to these songs just sitting around the house, and yeah I agree that they are lacking in "deepness." I think they are supposed to be though, they're fun songs. When you go to the club and the song is played, all the girls get hype and hit the dance floor, that's all that matters, having fun.
and when those girls hit the dance floor one can only hope Huey's song Pop, Lock, and Drop it is on the playlist. :wink:YNWAComment

Re: My Lip Gloss is poppin
People don't go to clubs to think about problems in society, how shallow they are, or that they are too self-absorbed. They come to get drunk, dance and socialize.
I used to roll my eyes and make fun whenever I heard these kinda songs, but I've learned they have their place when the situation is right.
Obviously Laffy Taffy or Party Like A Rockstar isn't something most people would rock to in their iPod while trying to read a book (at least I hope not), but they do their job in the club.Comment
