My autistic brother is less socially inept than that kid.

It would be different if the guy was just shy and not comfortable but he just looks and sounds slow when he's talking to other people.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I watched the post-win interview with the kid, and it was awful. That was really hard for me to watch.

The guy's not a moron by any stretch of the imagination. Nor do I think he's autistic, ******** or whatever. He's just slow to mature, IMHO.

I don't even think it's about living a sheltered existence. Certain people are just more bookish and less social than others no matter what environment you expose them to. I was that way, though I've outgrown much of the discomfort I would experience talking with others. However, I am much more articulate even to this day when expressing myself using the written word, or discussing a subject I am actually interested in. This guy has to go around the media, giving appearances where people use him as a prop or engage him in small talk about how it "feels" to win the national spelling bee. I don't think it's that easy to do, especially if you feel discomfort over being the center of attention.

                            Homeschool ownage.

Kids are not meant to be kept in a house during the formative years of their lives. Almost every home schooled kid I've come across is extremely awkward and pretty rude.

The lady interviewing him was pretty cute and the fact that she was able to keep her cool throughout the embarrassing interview makes her S-E-X-Y, Sexy!

I wanted to pop a rock off this little nerd's noggin after the first 20 seconds.

Two of my good friends (they're brothers) were home schooled. Gotta admit, when my cousin introduced me to them, they came across very weird, very quiet and I did kinda feel like they didn't want anything to do with me. And these dudes were in their late teens. After hanging out with them for the weekend, they opened up quick. But at least they had social skills. Both got jobs and kids and what not.
