First off a general observation on Nicolas Cage. Outside of appearing in a ton of movies, I’ve noticed he has yet to appear in an “artsy” movie unlike a lot of other big stars.

From the trailer, Next looked like a complete dud. But much to my surprise, it wasn’t. Even though Cage and Biel had zero chemistry, the film was entertaining. Cage can see 2 minutes into the future so there were a lot of flash forwards in the movie. It’s hard to really talk about this movie without discussing the ending. I’m guessing most people will really like it or hate it.

I love Nicholas Cage, but this was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Or World Trade Center (which I'd consider "artsy" in a sense. It's certainly depressing as hell and not a hollywood movie.)

It Could Happen to You wasn't exactly artsy but it isn't the typical Nick Cage movie either.

Either way, it seems Cage specializes in movies that can either be cheesy as all heck or quite good. Most of his movies seem to straddle that thin imaginary line there.

The dude can act, he's just in his payday phase.

Top actors aren't paid based on performance, just presence. So, he can nab his 10-20 million dollar "fee", and sleep walk through a role or two.

The Wicker Man was pretty artsy.

I would argue World Trade Center is the opposite of artsy. Think about who dies and who lives in the movie...The same people in any "disaster" flick. A movie about 9/11 can't be artsy because it's depressing. I would more easily consider a 9/11 movie artsy if there's lots of laughing and lots of clowns.

The Weatherman was sort of artsy (and hilarious).

The Weatherman was sort of artsy (and hilarious).

I haven't seen it in a long time but I actually liked that movie.

EDIT: Oops I meant The Family Man which was quite good and was pretty much a modern day Frank Capra type film.
