    Internet provider question...

Is there a site out there that you can see what internet providers there are in your area?

I know my town has Verizon and charter...but I was wondering if there is a way to check what else is out there.

If not...what other providers are common other than Verizon/Charter?

Dish Network has been spamming me with their service over satellite.

Time Warner is another big cable internet provider.

The company here in the Springfield area is Insight, but they are currently a third owned by Comcast and are switching over to "full" Comcast branding at the end of the year.

My connection is 10Mbps down, 1Mbps upload (the latter is the important number for hosting).

Stay away from TWC; I absolutely hate it. It costs too much for too little of options. One of my biggest gripes is their inability to settle a deal with NFL Network. They also lack in the HD Channel selection. I have like NBC-HD, CBS-HD, Discovery-HD, and then like two others I never watch.

The cable also cuts out at least five times a year with TWC. I told my parents to drop TWC and get DirecTV after the fiasco I had with the cable crapping out thirty minutes before the Season 3 Finale of LOST. Ended up having to watch it on my computer screen the next morning.

I figured TWC screwed up again this past Sunday during the Sopranos Series Finale. I almost flipped **** thinking it cut out again, but then I got on here and saw it was how it was supposed to happen.

I liked the satellite HD offerings (Food Network, gaming, NFL Network, etc.) but where I live they don't have the HD locals, and as such, I HAD to go for cable. High definition food is all well and good, but my wife and I NEED our high def 'LOST' and the other network shows we watch.

Apparently the only two options my town allows are Charter and Verizon.

Since Verizon sucks, we're going to be switching to Charter soon.

Would 5.0 extra mbps be worth an extra 20 dollars?

                  5.0mbps package is 39.99, their 10.0mbps package is 59.99

Do you think it'd be worth it, or would 5 be enough? We're currently running on a 3.0 service which blows.

Johnny do you have a regular antenna on your roof? If so you should most likely be able to use that to bring in local HD channels with your satellite receiver. We have the option with ours and we have Dish. You can also go straight to your TV if it has a digital tuner which I am sure it does. Antenna's provide the best picture quality as well.

Springfield doesn't broadcast HD over-the-air. Most of the stuff comes in from the Chicago HD feed with the local ads. Same thing happened in Boise, where ABC was piped in from a Central timezone location and was an hour ahead of the TV Guide.

I can get locals with Dish/DirectTV, but no HD locals at all!
