Help Looking for a Laptop

I just had my graduation party and managed to get $1500 and as present my parents are gonna get me a laptop to utilize for college. There budget is like $600 but I myself want something between $800-$1,2000. So there gonna pay $600 on whatever I get and I will pay the rest. So I am looking for recommendations for laptops between $800-$1,2000.

I like to download music and movies and would be like able to game some since my desktop is old and not able to. Also anybody have any insight on say a portable hardrive or a good set of speakers please let me know.

Thinkpad notebooks are pretty reliable.

Or you could go with a Macbook.

I dont think you need to know which one i would recommend

You can get a student discount for that macbook....

I think you can save $50 on the standard macbook...

If you go with the Macbook Pro, you can save about 200 with the student discount... but it will cost around 1700, more than you want to spend

I just got a new Thinkpad for work and it's great. I couldn't be happier. It is very realiable and has nice features like the sensors that protect your laptop if it falls. I recommend it.

Also, never go with that piece of fruit...! Just messing.

I have a MacBook and I absolutely love it. If you don't have an ipod I know I always see a advertisement on the itunes store about a macbook and a free ipod nano. Any questions about mac's let me know.

Thinkpads are the best business notebooks on the market. I bought a T60 three months ago and love it.

Facebook. You can get some awesome deals on there because some college kids who's parents pay for everything has no understanding on what stuff is worth. I just picked up a nice couch and soft for $200. She only wanted $150 but I felt too bad so I gave her $200 for it. I've seen some laptops as low as $300 that are quality machines.

I want a T60, but I have to come up with some way for my current laptop to "break". I thought I was going to get one when the left side of the screen broke off the connector to the bottom of the laptop, but they fixed it.
