I think the cops probably could have handled the situation better, but we also do have no idea what went on before they started filming.

And yet another police officer will get away with brutality.

That kid ran away fast as hell.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

          Either

A - the cop is a total ****head

          or

B - the kids did/said something to him to piss him off, plus running away didn't help things

I don't know, like kapo said we might have just seen what they wanted us to see.

It's not like it matters when they start the video, the guy never would get in any trouble other than paid leave(aka vacation). I don't know how much a 13 year old could do to a police officer anyway. Is it against the law to say anything insulting to a police officer?

You haven't lived until you have been cuffed and stuffed.

I have never been a fan of the police, military or authority so I can't say I am surprised. This goes on everyday and everyway where there are people with power issues.

I am sure someone will mention that it is illegal to skateboard or ride a bike on the sidewalk in most cities. It is also still illegal to be a black man on the streets after dark in Ohio. Umerika

Don't run, it just pisses them off! And they might upchuck some donuts! That is not a pretty sight, so please don't run!

                      Re: What do you think?

Those kids should have just kept their mouths shut and not have moved.

Some kids just think they are above the law. They shouldn't have been skateboarding there.

If its illegal to skate somewhere, then don't skate there. Don't act surprised when you get in trouble for something you aren't supposed to do and then resist arrest.

Its like if I were to go streaking or something, or urinate in a public place where it is against the law, and then I try to resist arrest. It would be utterly stupid and the police would have every right to do what they did.

Thats my opinion, and I know some people will disagree with me. But there are rules in place for a reason. If you aren't supposed to do it, then don't do it.

                        Re: What do you think?

I love the anti-police posters. They take one incident and instantly use it to generalize the whole police force...this time the key complaints are race, power issues, and yet again police getting away with brutality.

There are approx. 985,000 police officers in the United States. With a number that is basically 1 million...don't you think a bad apple might get in every now and then? Is this officer in the video one of those? I don't know...I've never met him. But unfortuantly for him a lifetime of good police work could be tarnished due to a five minute video. Maybe this is common for him...or maybe he was having a bad day, problems with the wife, etc...and lost it when some undisciplined teenager mouthed off. I've heard of a few bad priests and teachers as well.

I'll be the first to admit there are racist, power hungry, heavy handed cops. I've heard of them, I've seen them, and I've worked with them. But you know why there are racist, power hungry, heavy handed cops...because cops are human beings. And in any job where humans hire humans, the wrong people are going to slip in no matter how strict and tough the hiring processes are.

But please don't generalize. Let's say that 5% of police are bad. And I mean really bad. Bascially crooks in blue. That is 50,000 cops on the streets with a badge and gun that shouldn't be. And I admit that's a huge number who can do a lot of harm, and in the process create a huge public perception that police officers are corrupt. Then let's say another 5% are lazy. They only go for the paycheck, eat doughnuts all day, and couldn't care less about the people they come in contact with. Another 50,000 disgracing the uniform.

But what about the other 900,000 officers that are busting their *** and trying to make decisions...some life altering...and help people who they just met, on a day to day basis? Where was the damn camera the other night when I was chasing a guy on foot through an apartment complex who had stolen a car and kidnapped a baby? And I'm not tooting my own horn. But that's just once incident, on one night, for one cop. There are thousands of incidents every day where men and women who are everyday good people strap on body armor, put on a gun belt, and go out and genuinely try and help people.

Hundeds of thousands of officers don't judge you on race, gender, religion, sexual preference, or anything else. So please don't judge us because we wear blue.

                          Re: What do you think?

I'm not judging police officers based on their uniform, I'm judging them based off personal experience and from the fact that in stories of brutality where there is video evidence plus eyewitnesses the officers rarely if ever get in trouble and nothing happens. I've seen and heard of plenty of police officers abusing their authority and it's sad that I have to be scared of getting pulled over when I'm driving around my own neighborhood. And I don't see why I would need to bring up a good police officer in a thread that shows a cop choking a kid. Whether you want to admit it or not, the police get away with that type of **** all the time and I'm sick of seeing them get away scot free simply because they have a badge. If all the good police got together and actually spoke out against the lack of punishment then maybe there would be more respect out there for them but when you so many incidents that get swept under the rug or when they do get media attention they somehow always manage to get away with it, you can't expect people to want to go out and hug the first cop they see.
