Cleaning a Laptop

Hey guys, just wondering how you guys:

Clean an LCD screen (mine is of the shiny kind from Acer)

And how you guys clean the keyboard.

My is pretty darn dirty--I can see lint in between the keys

You can take the keyboard off and clean it (a little... or a lot of work) or get one of those special keyboard sprays. Walgreens has them.

You can probably find an LCD screen cleaner at the same place.

Compressed air and LCD screen cleaner.

Truthfully, I just clean my LCD screen with a damp cloth (soft cloth). That works fine and doesn't cause any harm. Just make sure the laptop is off and cooled down before doing anything.

The only stuff I saw at stores for the LCD screen was some Monster product that cost 50CDN... forget that


As for the compressed air; I thought two things....
1-maybe it'll damage the keys since laptop keys are weaker
2-the most effective way to clean the keys would be to unscrew the bottom, although I wasnt sure how



Another question, sorry

For the touchpad (keyboard mouse), I heard that if it gets too hot, then thats a bad thing. Mine gets pretty hot. I heard its cause dust goes into the actual laptop--is this true?

Compressed air is okay as long as you don't try to shake the can.

I've been working with computers since the late 80's. If you're going to used compressed air, always use short burst of air. Never hold down the trigger for too long or you'll be shooting liquid into your laptop.

Also i've tried every glass cleaner for flat panels and i've always been disappointed. For best results use a soft damp cloth with lukewarm water. Trust me it's free and it works the best as it doesn't leave a film or streaks.
