    Movies that could be remade.

Not because they were done terribly the first time, but because it would be great to see a fresh new look under the right direction. I think anything pre-80's is open game. My vote is:

    *The Cowboys*

I'm not a Wayne fan at all, but I've always loved this movie and recently re-watched it. I'd like to see what current talent could do with this.

Re: Movies that could be remade.

One classic movie that jumps to mind as I think it's more relevent today then it was back in the early 60s is ADVISE AND CONSENT.

I'm sure most of you haven't seen it so i'll give you a brief sketch. It's a political drama that deals with a dying president who tries to push for the nomination of a weak willed secretary of state. (that's the perception among congress as the nominee seems to be soft on communism) The leader of the senate who happens to be in the same party as the president and a personal friend of said president is tasked with trying to get the nomination to succeed.

So the leader of the senate looks for someone to preside over the nomination hearings. One young senator offers his enthusiastic support and willingness to do so. The problem is, there's a wily old veteran of the senate who opposes the nomination at all costs. (think of Robert Byrd but more lucid) so the leader taps someone else to preside over it.

There's quite a few twists and turns but the main twist which makes it very good for today is that the guy presiding over the nomination hearings is blackmailed with photos and a love letter to another man. Yes, he's gay. Well I won't spoil the rest. I urge anyone that likes political stuff to rent or buy the film.

      Run Silent, Run Deep.

Although I don't think you can get anyone today that could match Lancaster and Gable. I'll take any semi-accurate movie about the Silent Service in ww2. One about recently passed away Admiral Fluckey and his sub the Barb would be great. That guy's exploits during ww2 were better than most action movies.

The Best Years of our Lives.

Excellent movie about WW2 soldiers coming home from the war and adjusting. Could be updated to apply to today.

Guns of Navarone I think it was called...I think that could be pretty cool if they re-did it with today's special effects.

...and just like back then the movie would be criticized by conservatives. The original film was criticized for sympathizing with socialist/communist ideas. This time it would criticized for not being patriotic enough by questioning the war.

I'd like to see a better remake of THE DESPERATE HOURS. The Mickey Rourke/Anthony Hopkins remake was BRUUUTAL!

For horror fans... I'd like to see Alexandre Aja remake Nightmare on Elm Street... or at least some other quality horror director.

I feel the same way about Twelve Angry Men.

I'd like to see that made better than the remake, but then again, maybe these great movies need to be left for what they are.

Sounds like a great movie, but I can't think about Sen. Byrd without remembering this clip.

                      Jaws,Star Wars,Rocky,and the Godfather.
They are all ripe to be "re-imagined" and marketed to 14 year olds like everything else that comes out.

I can't see a reason for any of those to be remade.

The Godfather?!? I can't see anyone else playing Vito Corleone than Marlon Brando.

I agree....I don't see remaking movies that are culturally iconic for the sake of seeing how they would look today (see Steve Martin flailing away at trying to recreate Peter Sellers). Even certain classic TV shows made into movies should be taboo (don't get me started on The Honeymooners or even Get Smart). If they touch Andy Griffith, I'll probably have to pull my single bullet out of my breast pocket and......

I don't think he was being serious, more like he's upset with the way the movie industry is remaking everything.
