Since it's the directors of Independence Day and Day After Tomorrow, I'm not expecting earth shattering stuff. But I'll go to see it for sure.

The lead in the movie (Steven Strait) was in my Physics class back in high school... Its nice to see he is going to be in a big budget movie.

I liked those movies for what they were as well, but they weren't earth shattering. I fully expect this movie to be in molds of those two.. entertaining scenarios of events/times that can only be imagined. I'm thinking I'll liken this 10,000 to Apocolypto.

Hmm This should be Emmerich's best movie since Stargate. His other movies didn't really seem to have enough solid plot or were a little TOO far fetched. Hopefully this movie goes back to when he did solid directing and writing for his movies.

My worry with this film stems from the real problem with this director.

He goes for effect rather than story. Sure the special-effects will be amazing, and people will be in awe with what they see, but in the end will you like the movie?

              I'm going to guess no.

This movie seems to say, "Hey, I should write a story that takes place in 10,000 B.C. It'll have creatures from that period! Landmarks! All of it!"

Apocalypto, on the other hand, was about the Mayan civilization and their practices, beliefs, and finally the assumed end of their civilization. That's a story with an effect being born out of it.

Roland Emmerich's other movies (Godzilla, Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day) are big budget special-effect movies with mostly bad story (though Independence Day wasn't entirely bad. Just wasn't very good).

Of course, this movie will make close to 150 million in the box office and he'll get the green light to make another one just like it.

Looks like I saw an actual dinosaur in there. Errmmmm that's not right? Looks like something I'd be interested in though.

Actually Day After Tomorrow was a pretty credible story tho events were sped up a bit for the purposes of a Hollywood movie. You're right about Godzilla especially with Emmerich's piss poor joke on Siskel and Ebert especially when Gene was beginning to feel the onset of the cancer that killed him.

That being said he's the same guy that wrote and directed Stargate so he gets a pass but if this movie is just another SFX stunt then he's going to look more and more like a one trick pony.

Haven't seen Stargate. I have to check it out.

As for your comments on Day After Tomorrow, I think you hit it right on the head. I enjoyed the concept but thought it could be better. Just couldn't tell what it was that I didn't like. The events being sped up might be the reason. The more I think about it the more I get this upset feeling of watching the film. I think that might be it.
