I have Fios internet and they required a credit card to auto-charge monthly too. I didn't care--I charge everything for frequent flyer miles.

Suggestion for ODogg...don't use a debit card for auto-billing stuff. I'd highly recommend against it--get a credit card for that stuff.

I work for a company that processes thousands of credit cards every month for a subscription based service. We get calls all the time from people who use a debit card with us and have had overdraft & other fees hit. We don't do anything to cover it since it's not our fault (even if they had a past due and we automatically tried it again and it went through since they signed for it). If they accidentally charged you, they should refund fees. If you had a past due, an equipment fee or something else, it's on you.

Thanks man, actually my friend who is a banker hooked me up so from now on that's what i'm going to do, use an actual credit card instead of a bank card. Verizon did give me a full credit, it just took a bunch of calls FYI.

They are finally rolling out FIOS in my town. After my Comcast DVR failed and lost all my shows for the 3rd time, I decided to make the switch. My installation is scheduled for the 30th. Is everybody that has FIOS still happy with it? How are the boxes? My old Comcast box froze all the time and the DVR constantly crapped out. Have people seen these issues with the Verizon boxes?

My boxes are pretty damn good...Their on-demand sucks compared to Comcast though...it's slow and laggy and they don't have HD On Demand

other than that i've never had a problem with anything

I got FIOS TV and Internet installed yesterday, switching from Comcast. Early impressions:

Positives:
- Internet speed seems about the same. I haven't tried uploading anything yet though which is where Verizon has the real advantage (2MB vs 384 KB).
- I LOVE the new box and guide so far. The guide is much better at providing more info with less button presses on the remote. Basically, the show you are highlighting in the guide is enlarged and it gives the description without having to press info to view the whole thing.
- Also love the remote. it has a skip forward and skip back button in which you can customize the time it skips. The whole guide and remote seems much more responsive. I haven't had any of those delays I used to get on my old Comcast box yet.
- I got the multi room DVR which is awesome. i record stuff normally in my living room. When I go into the bedroom I hit the DVR menu like normal and it's just like I'm sitting in the living room. Can watch any shows I've recorded and can also pause in the living room and resume watching in the bedroom.

Negatives:
- I have an older 30" Samsung HDTV that only has a DVI input. The new box I got doesn't have a DVI output (only HDMI). The tech gave me a HDMI to DVI cable but for some reason it won't display anything on 1080i or 720p. I'm using my component cables for now while I'm working on this problem.

I'm still happy, the only issue i had was the billing is very confusing and you have to make SURE they give you a bundled discount on your first 2 or 3 bills. Other than that it's been great.

THe boxes are quite good, i've had the same one since July without any problems. I know what you mean about Comcast boxes, I went through one about every 3 months or so with the freezing, turning on/off, the garbled data and crap like that. I've not seen antyhing like that with Verizon, at least not yet.

I've always hated Cablevision's guide... TERRIBLE!

you can also choose to have the guide just come up on the right hand side of the screen as a mini-guide as well, which is nice.

FIOS has widgets too, which means you press a button on there and you can get internet type data. So far they just use the widget for local weather and traffic though. there is talk that at some point the widgets could be for changing camera angles in sports shows and such neat-o stuff like that.
