Windows XP Help!I seem to be experiencing problems with my new computer. Whenever I start it up I get the message "Windows No Disk Exception Processing Error." I tried to find some help on Microsoft Support, but it was almost useless. It is not virus related as all of my scans are clean, and everything is updated. I also did a Google search and tried a few things like reformatting the drive to an earlier date, but the message is still there. I have also noticed considerable slowdown in my dvd/cd burner when I am reading and writing disks. Have any of you guys had this message before, and if so how did you solve the problem?Tags: None

 Re: Windows XP Help!

Sounds like the drives are running in PIO mode. Have you installed any games that use Starforce copy protection? Here's what you need to check. Open device manager, select IDE controllers, there maybe a plus next to it. If so click on the plus sign.

Double click on primary IDE channel. Click on the advanced settings tab. Now look at where it says "transfer mode", This is very important. It has to say DMA if available and right below that it should say Ultra DMA Mode 2. If it doesn't you need to change it from PIO Mode to DMA mode then reboot.

Also have you checked for Spyware and Viruses?

 Re: Windows XP Help!

Thanks for the suggestions Rodster, but I have already tried what you suggested as well as running virus and spyware. The only thing I have been able to do is to get my disk drive to read and write normally after reformatting my drive to an earlier date. The disk drive was the only real problem that bothered me as it was taking 2-3 hours to burn a dvd/cd, but the computer and all applications seem to operate normally. Several people seem to have experienced similar problems after their anti-virus auto updated, and it seemed to fix itself after the next update. If the next update does not auto-correct I guess this baby will take a trip to see the Geek Squad at the BestBuy that I purchased it from.Comment

 Re: Windows XP Help!

The "No Disk Exception Processing" is typically associated with removable media. Have you been making use of any flash drives / memory cards / etc?

As for the slow disc burning, that is likely a transfer mode issue (PIO as opposed to DMA). The system may "appear" to be operating normally, as you don't need a fast drive access for most functions. Only when large reads/writes occur (like burning a disc) would you really notice the slowdown.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

If it is not spyware or virus than it might be an OS problem caused by recent software/hardware changes. The "No Disk Exception Processing" is typically associated with removable media. Have you been making use of any flash drives / memory cards / etc?

 Another problem could be Dit.exe.

Go to the command prompt, type in msconfig and see if it is listed under start up programs. If it is, disable it and restart. If the error doesn't occur anymore that could be the problem.Comment

 Re: Windows XP Help!

I did look for the dit.exe file but did not see it anywhere, and I have been using my PSP as a flash drive to transfer my PS3 rosters. Thanks again for all of you guys trying to help me figure this thing out.Comment
