XBOX 360 1080p
I just bought a brand new 56 inch 1080p dlp hdtv and I was just wondering about how I can make my XBOX 360 play at 1080p... I have heard that the new elite's run at 1080p on HDMI, and that I can make my 360 premium run at 1080p with VGA cables... is this correct? Is there a noticeable difference between the 2 options? I would imagine I am much better off just getting the VGA cables than selling my 360 and putting that toward buying an elite correct? Is there a certain type of VGA cable that is better than another? And I also am assuming that there is a HDMI hookup on the XBOX 360 HD DVD add on that will allow it to run at 1080p right? If anyone has this HD DVD add on, how does it look and are you satisfied with it? Thanks for all your input guys its much appreciated!Tags: None -
Re: XBOX 360 1080p
Not all television VGA connections are created equal, some do not display 1080p or fill the whole screen, I've heard toshiba has the best vga capabilities. The HD DVD player does not have it's own video output, it connects to the 360 via usb and displays video throught the 360's video connection.
The HD DVD add-on looks great but it does not supported any lossless audio codecs at the moment, so if you don't care about lossless audio the add-on is a good buy. -
Re: XBOX 360 1080p
I know one thing, the Samsung DLP I got (5088 50") kicks major butt with the VGA cables running in 1080p.
As for HDMI being better, that just depends if your TV has good VGA input or not. If it doesn't then of course HDMI will be better. But if your TV has good VGA input then there is no need to get an Elite just for HDMI.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

This is the TV I got, so do you imagine VGA will work well enough with this to warrant staying with VGA and not getting an elite?Comment

If you got a Samsung then the VGA should be fantastic, probably better than HDMI. I think you're good to go. Great choice of tv btw..http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...FH4EF&v=glance

Re: XBOX 360 1080p
I can't speak to 1080p, but I can say that not all VGA cables are the same. I have a 720p Vizio LCD and got a relatively cheap no-name VGA cables on ebay. I tried all the settings and the picture was fine (not any better than component cables by the way) but the image was never centered...it was always pushed to the left or the right. Needless to say I went back to the Microsoft component cables.
The 360 HD add-on is quite nice. I briefly owned the Toshiba HD-A1 and the 360 was better. PQ was about the same for both, BUT the 360 had wicked fast loading times, the remote control/360 controller was definitely more responsive, 360 is more portable, and most importantly the 360 could play slightly scratched HD DVDs and navigating extra features on the HD DVD was a lot easier.
The same A1 I returned to Sears will probably be under $100 next month, but I still won't buy it. Just too finicky and player and the load times were horrid.Comment
