    How's this laptop?

I made a thread like this awhile ago but I didn't end up getting it. But this is the one that I should be getting as soon as the check clears:

    HP Pavilion dv6500t
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    # – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7100 (1.80 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    # – 15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    # – 2GB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
    # – 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    # – HP Imprint (Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Microphone
    # – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth
    # – 200GB 4200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    # – LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    # – 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    # – Norton Internet Security(TM) 2007 - 15 Month Subscription
    # – Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
    # – HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

The price for the laptop, a wireless mouse, and some other stuff comes to $1400.00

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Seems quite good... perhaps the screen might be a bit small, but that's the only thing I see that could be an issue.

What's the better processor, a AMD dual core, or the Intel Core 2? I can get one with a bigger screen for the same price just with the AMD.

Honestly, I'm not up to date on the AMD/Intel processor comparison. If you're going to do a lot of CPU intensive things, I'd ask someone else just to make sure, but if you're just using it to write papers, surf the web, etc... it won't really matter.

Wow, I'm getting one exactly like that. Did you customize it at Costco's website? If you didn't you should, you could drop and add some of the stuff you don't want.

Only thing you should drop is that HDD. It's 200 GB but 4200 RPM (SLOW). Get the 160 GB 5400 RPM instead.

I did it at the hp website. I need as much space as I can get because I download a lot of things. What does a faster hard drive do? There's another laptop that I'm thinking about getting with a bigger screen but a slightly slower processor(1.6 ghz) and the hard drive is 240gb but 5400 rpm.

A 15" laptop screen too small?

Wow, I'm tired... I thought I was running a much higher resolution.

I'm not. I think this is tiny and my previous laptop was much better... it was 17 IIRC and I had a higher resolution and I preferred it. But the thing is... there's one with a bigger one that he's looking at... and screen space is huge.

I think I might go with the one with the bigger screen, the only thing that I don't know is if the processor being slower is going to make a difference. I'm not playing games or anything but I do tend to run a few things at the same time while downloading stuff. Would going from 1.8 ghz to 1.66 make a big difference?

Shouldn't make a difference at all.

Nope. I have a dual core @ 1.66 GHz in my desktop and have no problem multi-tasking.

I'd go with the faster processor. You can always get a external hard drive for cheap. Online places like tigerdirect.com always have them on sale. I got a 400GB hard drive for $90 back on black friday.
