    Internet Connection Help

    Hey guys,

So over the past few months, my internet has been on-off. I figured it might be the service, because I called the first time it happened (it was down for two days) and they said they were working on the problem.

However, it's been really bad lately. The modem seems to be fine, as it is by my brother's computer so when he connects his computer directly to the modem not through the router, the internet works fine.

I connect my laptop through the wireless capabilities of the router. When the internet doesn't work, signal would be there, but nothing will load up. Not websites, AIM, or anything. I would unplug the modem, unplug the router, let it take it easy, then plug both back in. The status bar on the internet, for example, would stop halfway and on the left-hand side it would sa "Looking up www._____.com"

I have a Linksys WRT54GS for the router. Is it busted? Could it be anything else?

If it's the router, then can you guys suggest a wireless router that actually freakin' works?

    Thanks a lot!

It sounds like it's the router, if you can plug directly into the modem and have no problems, then the router would be the obviously problem.

I use Belkin routers, not sure on the model, had it for a while, but I've recommended Belkin products to all my friends/fam and they've never had a problem.

Sounds like an incompatibility between the modem and the router.

I had a similar problem. Turns out it was a folder with about 10,000 viruses that was the problem.

            No viruses/spyware/adware on my computer.

Fishy, I think I'm just gonna get a new router. You think that'll fix it?

So I just got a new router. Some D-Link "Rangebooster G" Router.

The setup was very easy and seems to be working fine. Hopefully this one doesn't crap out on us like the other piece of crap did.
