    HD setup

I originally posted this in the HD sticky, but haven't gotten any responses yet.

Finally entered the HD world, need a little help with the setup.

    I got a 42" LG LCD that does 1080p.

    For gaming:
I've got the PS3 hooked up via HDMI. Should I leave all resolutions checked on the PS3 or just 1080p and 480p (it won't let me disable 480p)?

    For TV:
I've got the cable box hooked up with DVI. I set the default resolution at 1080i on the box. In settings, it gives me four options:
    Auto DVI
    Fixed
    Up Convert 1
    Up Convert 2

Fixed seems to lock everything at 720, even though I have 1080i set as the default. So I put it on Up Convert 1, which to my knowledge puts HD at 1080i and SD at 480p. Is this right?

    Thanks.

    Re: HD setup

I think you want "Auto DVI" as it should pass through the native resolution of the program (1080i for CBS, NBC, TNT HD, 720p for ESPN, ABC, and 480i for all SD).

As for the PS3, just set it to auto...it will automatically pick the highest and all available resolutions. All PSone/PS2 games will play at 480p over HDMI (unless you download the update for upconversion) and most PS3 games are 720p (no scaling...yet). Some however, like the Sony titles and 'Ninja Gaiden' are 1080p.

Leave them all checked on the ps3. Most games are not 1080p anyway. Your Blue Ray movies will be 1080p though.

Use "auto dvi" for you cable box. that way your tv will do any upscaling and not the cable box. Your tv should have a better scaler.
