fooled around with the display settings, turing every special hdtv option on. It has reduced the bluriness pretty well, except there are still a lot of jaggies on the facemasks and outline of the players, but it looks more high-def now. Jaggies are fairly common fb games, so it not as big a concern for me.

Update your PS3! PS2 games are notoriously blurry on the PS3 and look loads better upconverted with the 1.7 update! Also, do an auto-detect for your resolutions (the PS3 will detect all available resolutions for your display).
The sharpness to zero might not be correct, as it can over-soften your picture. If you own a Sony Blu-ray (like 'Talladega Nights' or 'Hellboy') on the main menu hit "triangle" then *7669*. You'll get some test patterns I can explain. It'll also improve your picture.

EDIT: Turning all your options on may actually degrade picture further by adding edge enhancement, crushing your blacks, blue-ing up the grayscale, etc. I can help with the calibration stuff, but it's a bit in depth. I'll at least need all your options first!*

You know what, fix your own damn TV! Better yet, buy a better quality display as opposed to some crappy Samsung LCD monitor. Sammy only excels in the DLP realm anyway.

Alright smart ***, next time make your post clearer! You start off mentioning how it looks like **** in 480i! Well no **** sherlock! Any high def game will look like crap in standard definition.
You know what, fix your own **** TV! Better yet, buy a better quality display as opposed to some crappy Samsung LCD monitor. Sammy only excels in the DLP realm anyway.

so far turning on all the options for the display have helped picture quality...I'm starting to think it must be my tv, which may be a P.O.S.
