Re: 14 Deserted Wonders of the World
I figured Centralia would be on the list. It's like 20 minutes from my house, pretty creepy place. 2 or 3 families are still making the dumb decision of living there though, and it's only (unfortunately) a matter of time before those houses collapse. -

Yeah, that entire situation is just nuts...why would they live there?Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: 14 Deserted Wonders of the World
No clue...apparently the families have been there their whole lives and don't want to move. I'm sure the state is giving them a generous offer to leave and build/buy a house somewhere else too. They're crazy.Comment

Re: 14 Deserted Wonders of the World
I've actually been to that place in Cyprus. My mother lived by that area in Cyprus before the Turks invaded during the war back in the 1970s. I was just there 2 years ago, and most of the area that is fenced off is Turkish military zone. On the other side of that metal fence you see in the picture, there actually is a beach that people go to. It's very weird that people go to the beach because they are only like 100 feet from those bombed out hotels and buldings.
It's definitely a very odd country. The left side of the country is still inhabited by the Greeks/Cypriots and is actually a very nice place, with beautiful towns and beaches. But once you cross the border into the Turkish zone, it is completely the opposite. The blown out buildings are still there from 30+ years ago and it doesn't seem like they've done any renovations to improve the area at all.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment
