The Sony receiver I have, and Born_bad just bought, comes with a microphone you plug in the front and place in the middle of the room. It self calibrates the speakers, did a damn good job IMO. I had to tweak them a little, but for the most part, it sounded amazing without my tweaking.
i got the sony 1000 and it has that microphone but it never really works as well as i thought it would...i would place the mic in the center to calibrate the speakers, but then certain speakers end up either sounding too loud or not loud enough, so i just conceded to doing it manually

Yamaha DSP that I bought comes with the mic, to calibrate the device also.

Just as follow up - I got this delivered yesteray and set-up was very easy. The thing sounds great and the simplicity of having everything hooked up to the receiver with one HDMI out to my TV is fantastic. The video quality looks great and I think even standard definition TV looks a little nicer.

The auto-cal worked pretty well, but I use Avia and a sound meter to fine-tune it. I'm really impressed with this receiver, so thanks for the recommendation, ExtremeGamer.

I read in the manual that they suggest setting the crossover frequency of your subwoofer as high as possible. Does anyone know if this is the best way to go? I thought the recommended crossover from most people is 100Hz.

This is something that's confused me for a while as well. You'll read different settings everywhere. I heard 120Hz was the way to go so I set mine at that.

Ok. Thanks. I'll increase mine to 120hz and see how it sounds.
